OH man, wow, I completely forgot this comic even existed!
Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality leaned into this pretty hard, heh.
I don't know if we're talking about the same thing (though granted, I haven't read MoR to know if it's "canon" in there, too).Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality leaned into this pretty hard, heh.
The premise of MoR is "What if Aunt Petunia had married a scientists instead of Vernon Dursely" and Harry, instead of being locked in a cupboard, grew up with scientific curiosity... so that when he got sent to Hogwarts his immediate reaction is to start empirically testing and documenting magic to try to understand WHY it works and not just how to work it.I don't know if we're talking about the same thing (though granted, I haven't read MoR to know if it's "canon" in there, too).
EDIT: TIL of the existence of "Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles" and ... ugh just no.

Yep, we're talking about two different things. I was referring to the hat (EDIT: and jewelry).his immediate reaction is to start empirically testing and documenting magic to try to understand WHY it works

Is this a joke about how awful Tapas is for hosting comics? Because Erma is updating, and has two spin-off series. Warrior Unicorn Princess: The Adventure Continues and Tales of Outcast. Best I can tell (from the wiki) 2016 is when Erma started being hosted on Tapas, and if you count filler updates, it's been fairly regular. The latest update was yesterday.Erma - Ended in 2016

Was there a reason posted behind the decision?I found out earlier this week that a comic forum I'd been posting on since 2009 had been shut down permanently into "read only" mode by the author. Yes, this happens to be one Jeph Jacques and his Questionable Content webcomic forum.
I had not posted there in quite some time - in fact, my last post was right after HRH Queen Elizabeth II had passed (one of the Admins was a Brit, so I felt it appropriate to send my condolences).
It's... a bit odd to have found out that it was no longer open. It's like finding out your favorite coffee shop shut down since last time you were there.
Was there a reason posted behind the decision?
Hey all, Jeph here. I'll go into further detail shortly, but here's the meat of this announcement:
The QC forums will be shutting down as of January 1, 2023.
There are a few reasons I've decided to take this course of action. Over the last few years, activity on the forum has slowed dramatically as folks migrate to other social media platforms, lose interest, or otherwise move on. This extends to the (wonderful, dedicated) mod/admin team, some of whom have expressed the desire to step down from their duties. In addition, the older I get the less comfortable I am with the idea of hosting my own social media platform. After discussing it with the mod/admin team, we've come to the conclusion that it's probably time to wrap things up.
The current plan is to leave the foums online, but in read-only mode. This way folks can still access whatever threads and posts they find valuable. As for where you all can go from here- that's up to you. I hear it's pretty easy to set up Discord servers, that might be a good idea. I'm not going to make or endorse an "official" QC server myself, but I'm cool with whatever unofficial things people want to make.
It's amazing that this place has lasted for almost 20 years, and it makes me profoundly happy that people have found and forged community here. I'll be forever grateful to all the mods, past and present, who have worked so hard to make this a safe, non-toxic environment, with special thanks to pwhodges for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. And I'm grateful to all of you, too! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

ps: butts lol
Which reminds me. I need to update my logins/passwords in the Admin area. In case my heart gives out or I get hit by a bus.Well, at least it wasn't a drama blowup. I guess I can understand where he comes from, but I intend to keep HF up and going even if it eventually comes to just me posting memes to be read only by myself
A pretty accurate depiction of freshman year of college then, huh?Reading this comic is like watching a car crash made of angst in SLOW motion!
