Weird weather

Is it callous of me that looking at that second one, my immediate thought was "oh nice, rain and lower temperatures for a few days."?

So thanks to a nearby wildfire, smoke and ash have rolled over my area making it look like something out of a Silent Hills game.

Can relate. Superstitions look like they're permanently fogged over thanks to the Salt fire on the other side by Roosevelt Lake.

Well, I WAS supposed to go back to Huntsville to do more work this week, but Hurricane Laura just prompted SHSU to close all their campuses for the rest of the week.

What's especially weird about it though, is that Huntsville, like where I am, is a good 150 miles inland. So that means the hurricane will just be rain by the time it gets here. So, yeah, don't close for Corona or anything, but OMG IT GON RAIN YALL

lol I live in Lake Jackson (near Houston). I *just* got an e-mail saying I need to quarantine for the next 14 days because one of my classmates who we were in contact with on Monday tested positive yesterday

Cranky lived in Huntsville for a little over 10 years before he got fed up with the people there and left. I can see them not taking a threat seriously if’n they can’t see it with the naked eye.

Since this is a Cat 4 there is still a good chance that it will still be a hurricane when it gets this far north. Ike was still sustained winds of 75mph when it hit. But we are under a tropical storm warning now.

The actual storm center will probably pass closer to me than anyone else. here. We're 160 miles from Galveston, and 110 from Port Arthur, Laura is expected to still be a full Cat 1 Hurricane tomorrow morning as it passes to our east. Going to be an interesting night/morning.

Where are you at, Spar? I'm near Houston

Lufkin, the track has shifted a little further East as of the latest forecast, basically running straight up the Sabine River that divides Texas and Louisiana. Around 55-60 miles from us. Current estimates put steady wind around 40mph, with gusts up to 75mph.

Another shift in the storm has put us barely in the rain, we were expected to receive between 4-6 inches of rain, but from what I can see here at my house it may only be an inch at the most. No wind to speak of, maybe 20mph gusts.

I have friends that live in Lake Charles, they got hit hard by the storm. I know, and confirmed, that one of the buildings at McNeese University lost it's roof, there were people sheltered inside (first responders and others) but nobody was injured.

I haven't seen the Superstition Mountains clearly in about two weeks. The Salt fire is still raging, and part of me's wondering when we're going to suddenly lose power because one of the fires will find the main power lines between Roosevelt Lake Dam and the rest of the Valley.

I'm waiting for it to come my way here in SouthWest Kentucky tomorrow - just supposed to be getting rain and wind, but are currently under a flash flood watch all day tomorrow.

No noticeable weather here. TS winds and rain expected. But only two fast moving rain bands yesterday morning, not training at all yet. Should get some more rain bands late to day though.

I got no rain, no wind, but was still without power for almost 7 hours yesterday. Thankfully, Entergy says that the "rolling" blackouts aren't expected to continue today. (I didn't even get a flicker of power during my outage. I don't know anyone whose power was out that got intermittent power.)

Sooo, I'm guessing since I'm still seeing @Gared and Aislynn playing games on steam, that their house is not in danger of the fires now raging throughout the pacific northwest...

These East Coast/West Coast rivalries are getting out of hand.
Wait, are you assuming the gangs have embraced shamans and are sending firestorms and hurricanes at each other, or are your assuming Mother Nature itself is helping in one-upping each other in a "oh, you got fire? Well, we've got fire and wind!" kind of style?
