What are you playing?

Man, I can immediately tell what I'm currently being deprived of when I thought of food not sex with (Jay's usage of) meat.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze feels like it was a little rushed in development near the end. Some of these levels lack the polish in design that Returns had. That said, the music and visuals are gorgeous, especially the silhouette level from world 6, having you fighting your way up an icy mountain during an avalanche. I don't know if I'll re-play this game like I did Returns, but I may have to find the soundtrack somewhere.

Lucky for you it wasn't, say, 7. I still haven't beaten the final Wily form, shit is insanely hard.
I haven't even started 7; it was on sale on the Wii U Virtual Console last summer and it's just been sitting there. I feel like the level design is going to be more akin to the X series, and part of what I really enjoy about Mega Man classic is that the levels are more of an enemy than the enemies in them. I'll still play it at some point, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

I will probably beat Wily's final form in 7 by save scumming with the restore point. I really tried hard to beat Mega Man 2 without it this time, and made it into the Wily stages before I finally got tired of having to go refill my ammo before fighting a boss yet again. Save-scummed against the dragon, the crash walls, and the first Wily phase. That isn't much--I was able to beat the lumped-together Robot Masters without losing a life, something I wouldn't have thought possible before playing Dark Souls, and most of the game too.

But still, it's not exactly the authentic NES experience when I can create my own checkpoints.

Yeah 7 adopted the scrolling screens over the transitioning ones, so levels are a bit more fluid. Mind you, this doesn't make them easier, in fact some of the levels are pretty tough. The Masters aren't that bad if you do them in weakness order, as almost every weakness causes a stun/knockback cycle you can abuse pretty easily.

I'll have to see for myself eventually. The Wii U is pretty much a Splatoon machine for now, until my wife's squid-fever dies down.

In the meantime today, I made some progress in Dark Souls 2. It feels weird to have opened up so many areas of the game and already be level 68 after just 14 hours. Levels don't seem to mean much.

I gotta say, I'm not sure I'll be replaying this one. I can justify a lot of the changes that people complain about, but even then something just feels off compared to Dark Souls or Bloodborne, something with the atmosphere that I just can't put my finger on that doesn't make this feel like a journey I'll want to re-experience, as opposed to Dark Souls and Bloodborne, which I immediately re-played after beating them for the first time.

So far I've only been playing this locally, but I hear it's really good when you have a server and a dedicated group. But right now servers are either hosted by you or $30+ a month.

Think Minecraft with dinosaurs. And the bad guys are around 24/7, not just at night. And you can't just dig a hole and survive. Until you get a chest and sleeping bag you lose all your stuff and get put randomly on the map when you die. Harsh! Highest I've gotten so far is level 6 before I started a new guy. This guy is at level 5 and hasn't died yet. But it's been close a few times. I aggroed a T-Rex and that guy chased me for quite a while before I gave him the slip. Pulse pounding, I tells ya!

Played 2 hours of Orion Prelude... it's like online coop horde mode. It's basically Halo vs Dinosaurs in an FPS with rPG elements.

It was gun.

I think I bought it last steam sale for 99 cents.

Encountered another tragic moment in AC4. Went on another roaring rampage of revenge.

I personally depopulated the entire guard population in the Kingston prison district after Mary's death. I mean c'mon! Mary was awesome!

Y'know, in shows like Spartacus, people often talk about honoring the dead with blood. I never really got that, but now I do. I really do. Every drop of blood I drain from these assholes is in your honor, Mary.

I am weak. I bought Splatoon.
I really want Splatoon. It looks super fun, but I can't stand that so much of the content is locked behind amiibo paywalls. It's all the bleck of on disc day-1 dlc, but now it has the added fuckery of manufactured scarcity.

Explain me these paywalls... you have to buy dolls to have access to DLC content for this game? Dolls you have to work hard to find, in person?

I thought there were a ton of missions under the Amiibos. I was wrong.

Turns out, each Amiibo has a new outfit and a weapon re-skin. That's all. The missions to get them are just the regular single player missions, but you play them with one of the other weapon types (example: the regular missions all use a version of the splattershot, while in the girl Amiibo, you'll do those same missions with a sniper rifle). The outfits are a schoolgirl outfit, a samurai outfit, and a cyborg outfit. Really not worth $35, but my wife can spend her money how she chooses. I'd recommend not bothering with the Amiibos unless you want the figurines. You're really missing nothing.

Now, what is locked by Splatoon is a bunch of content that Nintendo wants to parse out over time. Earlier this week we got a new weapon, the week before that we got a new map, new weapon, and new game mode. I expect something new will come next week as well. That stuff is all free, though. Then in August comes the free DLC, though Nintendo is keeping its contents a mystery for now.
