What are you playing?

Man, I forgot how bad terrik's voice comms used to be.
I never got into L4D so I have no idea how bad what @Terrik was doing there was. Anyway from what you & others have said him Terriking it up is just his natural state. Shooting him for that is like picking on an incontinent kitten - it's not his fault he's leaving messes everywhere!

You on the other hand are literally Hitler. The only reasons we even tolerate you are a) you can fix things when @Dave breaks them, b) the image hoard & c) your birthday thread in the Pit of Depravity.

...Mainly the birthday thread.

Played Civ VI a bit more today. Had to leave, so saved and quit. Can't reload the save, can't start a new game - whatever I do that would lead from menu to game just crashes. In a "music keeps playing but screen is frozen" kind of way. No settings were changed since last time? Huh. Apparently I'm not alone and new drivers are supposed to fix the issue, but GeForce won't download the new drivers -_- sigh.

The new drivers! They do nothing! AAAHHHH!

Well, they borked the sound, too, since Nvidia insists on installing audio drivers, but I got that figured out. But the game itself? Meh. It wants to "optimize" and run it at much lower settings, and it still won't load at all. It also suddenly starts up quite a bit slower with a loading screen before the splash screens. What's the point? Sigh.

About cultural victories; yeah, heard that before. Apparently they're easy to get "accidentally". The markers aren't all that obvious.

for other people having similar issues: found the problem. Windows Defender. God knows why. Disabling Defender while playing, or adding Civ Vi to the exceptions list, will clear the problem right up. Apparently I wasn't alone - a Defender update the past weekend did....something. Somehow.

Man, Civ 6 is pretty disappointing. There's some good stuff in there but I just feel like they have never really made much of an effort to increase the complexity and depth of the game. I think paradox may just have to be my new daddy from now on for all things 4X.

If you haven't tried Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, it's worth 20 bux or so.

My review

I just wish the sequel, Sorcerer King, didn't turn out to be such a dud.

The Aztecs are attacking. I'd better create a few more armies to keep them at bay.

Rest of the world: WARMONGER!!

How good are the DLC? Worth it or not?
"Legendary Heroes" is technically Fallen Enchantress with the Legendary Heroes DLC (AKA "Standalone Expansion"), and like Ash, I also consider Dead World to be worth the three bucks. Maybe the quest pack too. I'm not all that jazzed about the leader pack, and the others I could take or leave.

But don't buy the "ultimate edition," it sells you Fallen Enchantress AND Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, which is redundant since FE:LH is standalone.

So, it's been ... (searches forum) ... THREE YEARS since Frank gave away his copy of Guacamelee to me. Jesus.

Anyway, fun game, very stylish, wish I sucked less at it. Trying to get those Chac Mool orbs are a pain in the ass. Thanks Frank, your largesse did not go unappreciated! Now to work on that Copy of Civ IV from Chad...

Awesomenauts

Ever had a team that bickers more than fights? I had that problem. 'Nauts is a 3v3 game and my two teammates bickered over who was screwing who over.

Finally, I told them "That's enough. Both of you. Save the arguing for after the game if you want to win this. The infighting is killing us." When either of them tried to blame the other, I said something like "I don't care. Knock it off." I also told one them not to rage quit, which it sounded like he was going to.

They put each other on ignore and suddenly, we were kicking ass. We wound up winning, in fact.

I feel like I won TWO battles in that game.

As of 7 pm tonight I will be playing Skyrim again. This time I'm hoping to be a bit more judicious with my mods, even though I fear that they are going to fuck them all up like they did for Fallout.

As for Civ VI, there's a lot of balance issues to work out, but a lot of the complaints I see are from people trying to play it like Civ V. It's very fundamentally a different game, with a lot of things to do different. Turtling without an army won't work; keeping everybody happy probably won't work, but the AI really isn't all that batshit crazy. Warmongering can be avoided almost entirely if you, you know, don't annex and/or raze entire cities. Cripple the enemy, block them, disrupt them, don't destroy them, even in retaliation. Get them to cede cities - quickly. Or destroy their districts, and put cheap (maintenance-free) units (like the AI has hundreds of every time) all over their lands disabling their possibility to rebuild.
Source: already won on Deity without ever getting into a war except defensively, managed to keep 2 allies throughout the game.

Started playing Destiny again with the new expansion. For all the (deserved) shit I gave this game at launch, they have really turned it around and made a pretty damn fun game. I don't even like console shooters and I'm still loving it.

I hear rumors that a Destiny 2 is in the works, and that it will be coming to PC. Here's to hoping they don't fuck it up (they will)

Dammit Cultural Victory, I was trying to go for science. I was even playing Germany ffs! Damn AI not building anything culturally worthwhile.
