[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

It's not old news, they literally just announced it was actually happening now. Yeah, it was rumoured for a long time, but never outright confirmed. Gilligan will take part and he'll hand it off to the writer that created Saul.

AMC's running scared. Breaking Bad is over, Mad Men is coming to an end. What do they have other than Walking Dead.
It's old news in that it's been all but confirmed for quite awhile. No one is surprised by this. In fact, most of us are thrilled by this.

Just read that neither Gilligan nor, more importantly for the show to exist, Bob Odenkirk have signed on yet. Which makes the announcement really weird.

Probably because the only thing that was announced was that "AMC has announced via press release that it's reached a licensing agreement with Sony", not that the show is a go. It's basically a go.

I've had the latest episode of Dexter on my computer since Sunday. So far, it's gone unwatched.

Pretty bad sign that I don't even give a fuck about the rest of the season at this point. I might just skip the show until the finale.[DOUBLEPOST=1379021262,1379021149][/DOUBLEPOST]
Gargoyles, the last season was so meh that Greg Weisman made the comic book series made right after season two to make up for it.
There are only two seasons of Gargoyles. The last episode was the finale with the three huntsmen and such.

No. NO, there is no third season. It doesn't exist.

Yeah my wife listens to a dexter podcast with a host who is a huge apologist. But even he threw his hands up after the last couple of episodes.

So much for a season with everyone hunting Dexter who has been outed. How they didn't go that route I will NEVER understand.

That's honestly what the first two episodes looked like they were building into, Deb/everyone else vs. Dexter. How it turned into boring serial killer All in the Family is M. Night Shyamalan levels of terrible twist.

You know... Dexter used to be an intelligent character. He occasionally made mistakes because he'd underestimate a situation but there is no excuse for how moronic he has become and I place the blame firmly at the terrible writers that took over in season 6. The show has gone progressively down hill since then.

How it must suck for them that they are ending their series at its lowest point while Breaking Bad, also ending, just gets better and better.

Watched the first episode of Low Winter Sun. I'm getting Shield vibes from the first episode and I really like Mark Strong. Guess I'll wait and see how it turns out since it's not getting much of a reception critically or ratings wise.

Gail Boetticher as the IA guy was pretty funny.

And I have finally watched the "Once more with feeling" ep of Buffy, and with this and Dr Horrible its a wonder why Whedon hasn't made a damned broadway show so I can see it several times.

I've also seen the Angel episode with the guy who turns men into psycho misogynists and it was scary as hell!

Once More With Feeling, Normal Again and Hush are the only reasons that season 6 has a reason to exist.

I find it ironic that what are probably 3 of the best episodes of the entire series are in arguably it's weakest season.[DOUBLEPOST=1379298270,1379298120][/DOUBLEPOST]Except for The Body, of course. The Body transcends being a Buffy episode and just being a shining moment of drama on television.

Doh, I can't believe I mixed that up. Hush was when Willow first finds out that Tara is also a real witch, so obviously it was during Buffy: The college years.

Ooo love the Konrad-esque noble lie from Walt. I hope dexters writers are watching breaking bad and going, "we'll crap, why didn't we do that?"

Sleepy fucking Hollow. Ugh. Apparently, bad guys from the 1700's come back and learn how to use automatic weapons. I was hoping this would be good. I'd be wrong.

Clancy Brown getting his head chopped off was a nice bit of candy thrown to SF&F fans, though.

Veronica Mars Season 2. I love these characters so much, except for Duncan, he's duller than Riley from Buffy. Four episodes in, and it's already apparent that it's not as good as the first season. I'm still enjoying it, and I find it hard to fault it for not matching the incredibly high bar set with season 1. It's not just riding the coat tails so that's a plus (although, that would require ratings).

Yeah, Season 1 was definitely the highest point of the show. Season 2 has its moments and it's not even that bad. It just has the problem of following up Season 1. Plus - and I won't spoil anything - but the villain reveal at the end of this season is not only disappointing, but nowhere NEAR as well planted or hinted as Season 1.[DOUBLEPOST=1379444931,1379444865][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yeah, but he was the best character in the thing and now he's not.
See also, the dude that played the sheriff in the first episode of Under the Dome. Same guy that played Lapidus in Lost. And of course, they kill him off right out of the gate, losing who was already the only interesting character in the show. No wonder I gave up on it.

Written, produced and created by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the fucking plague of big and small screens everywhere.

I just watched Legends part one of Justice league and I FINALLY get what the Streak meant when he said to John Stewart "You're a credit to your people." Being an adult is fun.

Also I find Beware the Batman good...but I ain't that attached. I mean yeah its cool that he's fighting obscure villains rather than the same ones since the 60s, but other than that I just can't find myself to care that much. Honestly I'm just hoping for a Green Lantern cross over...and a damn third season to Green Lantern but that goes without saying.

Brooklyn Nine Nine, Andy Samberg's new cop sitcom on Fox had me in stitches. Not all of the jokes were winners, but enough were to have me wanting more.
It was good stuff, especially for a pilot. Even the best comedy shows start with mediocre pilots. I'm stoked to see how the cast and writing grows.

I've heard really good stuff about Brooklyn 99. Oddly I've heard really good stuff about Sleepy Hollow despite the fact that the story sounds amazingly stupid.

The AV Club has their take on Sleepy Hollow

AV Club said:
Sleepy Hollow (Fox, 9 p.m., debuted Monday, September 16)What is it?: Forget everything you think you know about Ichabod Crane. Instead of the cowardly schoolteacher-cum-ladies man of Washington Irving’s short story (or the cowardly police detective-cum-ladies man of Tim Burton’s film), the real Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is a former Oxford professor turned revolutionary in the War Of Independence who, on special instruction from George Washington, cut off the head of a villainous redcoat who may or may not be one of the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. Crane is then buried for more than 200 years, only to rise from the dead just as the Headless Horseman gets up to his old ax-murdering tricks again. There’s also a police officer (Nicole Beharie) on her way to Quantico, who gets sucked into Crane’s adventures in order to avenge her murdered boss. It’s ridiculous but surprisingly fun, like a tale told by the world’s most charmingly batshit idiot.
Target audience: People for whom any of the above description sounded appealing; people who don’t mind that there’s no way this can possibly sustain itself past episode three; Clancy Brown enthusiasts (first 10 minutes).
Ideal way to watch: Halloween night, post-trick-or-treating, with a sugar high strong enough to make you jump at every goofy scare and laugh too loud at the (unexpectedly) decent jokes.
Context-free dialogue from the pilot predicting how this will do: “Perhaps an asylum is exactly where I belong.”

How similar to Barney Miller is Brooklyn Nine-Nine?
Barney Miller is before my time, so I'm not sure. They're both sitcoms that have cops in it, that's all I can tell you.

So, just watched It's Always Sunny and The League back to back. The League this season has been....terrible at best while the opposite is true for IASIP. Every episode this season has had me doubled over laughing at least a couple of times. This latest episode delves into their own take on why they have zero presence in the awards scene and it's....well, pretty wonderful. Seriously, if at least Kaitlin (I fucking hate this name, there's like 1200 way to spell it) Olsen isn't nominated for best actress in a comedy this year, the whole thing is a sham. It's a little blatant most of the episode (and it would have been nice to lampoon DeVito's Emmy laden past) but was still hilarious.

Also, because apparently I'm stupid, I'm being made to watch season one of Mad Men. I've only seen two episodes and never gave the show a chance and my girlfriend is convinced I have to watch it with her. There are worse fates I suppose.

30 Rock: I think I've found what will be my favorite episode. Leap Day. It's so bizarre and in tune with its own universe. The jokes are spot-on. It almost feels like a Community episode in how masterfully it sends up holiday crap. I especially loved the fake Jim Carrey movie they kept running clips of throughout the episode.

There probably are. Worst case you descend into madness trying to figure out why people and critics love the show. Most likely you'll just be bored to tears.

Yep. Just count the minutes until it's over, hoping that the yawning desert will occasionally yield up the red-headed oasis of Christina Hendricks. But one day even that won't be enough. At least it wasn't for me.
