Rant VIII: The Reckoning

The guy I posted about a few days ago, lost his battle with cancer this morning. He was 46 years old, had an adopted 5 year-old, and had a decent law practice. He spent 16 months fighting this cancer, and didn't spread the word about very much on his having cancer. 46. Just over a year older than I am. He was too young to go, even for a lawyer. ;) (yes, that is a joke, one he even laughed at)

He was a good person, a good friend, and a good husband. I will miss our discussions that ranged from silly, to music to serious.

Rest in Peace Don.

Sooooo... I work in the scholarships department of the College of Graduate Studies & Research at the University of Saskatchwan*. In an attempt to save money, the university is recommending that we become an administrative unit rather than a college. OK, not a problem, I can live with that. However, in all the reports that are coming out detailing what is going to change, nothing is being specifically said about my department. Programs - yep; convocation - yep; admissions - yep; scholarships - big ol' nope.

So, U of S, tell me, am I going to have a job next year? Have the administrators, in their wisdom, even considered what's going to happen to us? Why am I bothering to come to work in the morning?

Remember, the more I know, the less likely I'm going to go on a rampage. This is for your own good.

*Yes, I realize that you can fine me now. Go for it. I could use a shoulder to cry on. You can stay in my barn.

As a grad student at a college affiliated w/U of S... I think I may know a guy (another student) who was involved in all that planning re-org stuff. Want his info? He's a bit of a pompus puffed-up twit sometimes, but he does have a tendency to know about governance things. He also may be totally useless.

Rockin'!

My co-workers have already started preparing their statements to the paper for after my rampage.

"She was such a quiet person, especially for an American."

We're going through similar restructuring at my University. The faculty and staff here are...rankled.

I was always pretty sympathetic with overrides. But they were first-come-first-served. Tell your tale of woe and hope for the best.
No dice. Unless I go to professors individually and ask for them to let me in, there's nothing that can be done at this point. I managed to get into one class I originally had signed up for, plus two evening courses that still fit degree requirements. It still puts me behind in getting programming classes, but I wasn't looking forward to taking one of those online anyway. I should be able to get an in-person class for those next semester, if I don't take something over the summer.

The biggest problem is that 6 - 8:50pm classes on Tu and Wed really limit my chances to get involved with the 8th Annual Evening of Shorts. I was really looking forward to acting in those again this year, and possibly directing. I'm going to talk with my instructors and see what can be done, but I may have really screwed myself.

That's what I meant by overrides. You usually have to go plead to the prof him or herself. But they may not have any left to give out.

Was just wondering how North_Ranger would be responding to some of these posts lately. :(
:( indeed.

On a brighter and related note, stieny got the money finally to his PayPal and we now have the information needed to send it to Mikko's parents (we were missing some bank information), so they will hopefully be getting the money some time this week or early next week. I don't think they know how much it's going to be. It's almost $2000 (€1747 / £1218).

If it was genuinely funny, kudos to them. If it was mean spirited, they can fuck right off.

Which was it?
Neither, I'm being a bit facetious. A problem/debate that was brought up 3 years ago at this job, when I was not managing the project but involved in its formation nonetheless, has re-emerged, only now the nature of what we're doing is different, and I'm arguing against the same things I fought for 3 years ago, and my boss is -without significant understanding- making decisions counter to what makes sense.

What we learned three years ago was that my boss did not know the information he has us working on; what I learned today is that despite three years of talking to us, working with the project's output and meeting with experts, he still has no idea.[DOUBLEPOST=1390257543,1390257497][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm just like...How... how. How can I suddenly be fighting the things I wanted, and how can he still just have no goddamn clue? It must be a joke.

So, this is the picture of Canada's dystopic future once Emrys is queen and rules the provinces with an iron fist and her doomweasel enforcers?

They only have themselves to blame. They had the chance to keep her distracted and placated at her University job, but noOOOOoooo!

@Bubble181, I love you. You will be spared The Scampering.[DOUBLEPOST=1390314619,1390314576][/DOUBLEPOST]

Would you like a job as my right-hand gal? The job comes with a snazzy uniform and your choice of doomweasel.
