Random Video Game Crap

Funny, when the Canadian dollar was 10% more than the American dollar for long stretches the last few years... I never saw any reduction of pricing of goods coming from America. I wonder why?

Americans who feel Canada had it good don't KNOW JACK SHIT.

Long story short, Steam won't be getting any more new game purchases for me until I analyze this much further and has been official downgraded to "Steam sales" only. I already don't buy a whole lot of new games (I'm backlogged as is) but sorry... I paid $30 for a game off-Steam that was listed $50 on Steam. Why? For no reason whatsoever, that's why. Now it's $55 because I'm not waving the star spangled banned and shitting burritos out of my asshole. Ridiculous.

I cringe at the prospect of our currency losing even more value, like it did back in the early 90ies to a shitty 70 cents to the American dollar, where games were $80 + tax when all we had to do is hop into a car and go to Vermont and buy it for $50 without tax. There was a HUGE "go to Vermont" culture back in the day because Canadians continually get screwed by not only the exchange rate but more importantly what American companies do to fleece Canada with import price fixes on goods.

Australia already takes it up the ass. Europe as well and there's quite a culture to circumvent this bullshit that I won't share here. I guess I'll have to consider it as well.

Or heck, back to mostly Torrenting my shit off a VPN.

You're taking the Steam thing and using to vent about all the other ways you're being screwed fiscally, and you are, I agree with you when it comes to other goods.

I guess https://www.steamprices.com/ Is going to have to add Canadian price listings.
Yeah, according to the exchange rates there (they added Canadian) we're paying a dollar or two LESS in coverted currency than Americans are now.

For example:

Assassin's Creed Black Flag right now is the same price in American and Canadian dollars, so we're paying about 10% less than Americans. Brits are paying even less.

Jay will still torrent, it's what he does.

I'd honestly (like I'm really honestly curious)like to know how this was possible. Stores in America do not accept Canadian currency in my experience, so you'd have to exchange your Canadian money into American dollars, so if you took 100.00 to pay for the game, you'd get 70.00 USD when you exchanged it. You'd then take that 20.00 back and exchange it when going back to Canadian currency (or, I guess, leave it in a drawer until your next trip to the US) and only receive 14.00 Canadian, so basically, you end up paying the same amount.

Also, I don't understand how you aren't paying sales tax. There's not a state, city or town in the union that doesn't charge sales tax on luxury items, unless you're buying it from a Native American reservation or something, but that's not technically US, they are a sovereign nation.

So, overall, I'm wondering how what you're proposing is even possible.

If you are close enough to the border, you can definitely use Canadian currency in America. I accepted it working at Target when I was in High School. We had a currency conversion button and everything.

Yes, but you converted the currency, so they paid the Canadian to USD converted price. End result is the same.

I do admit, we'll take quarters if we don't notice it. Goddamn Canadian quarters popping up in my change so I can't use them in the vending machine.

WHY ELSE WOULD I EVEN HAVE CHANGE? :p

Many prices in Canada are inflated beyond exchange rate, I could order a coax tool in the US on Amazon for $14 or $45 in Canada. Our dollar is not 1/3 of yours.

Hey someone with American Steam, post the price of LA Noire.

It's 16.99 Canadian right now (15.29 USD).

Again, I'm not saying that prices of other things AREN'T inflated. I'm saying that IN THIS INSTANCE, it's not inflated and it is not an unfair price to pay as it is in line with what the actual price of the game is.

But, if you want to turn this into Bowie's ignorant because he thinks everything in Canada is cheaper, go ahead and knock yourself out.[DOUBLEPOST=1412810418,1412810364][/DOUBLEPOST]

Is that Amazon, or the resellers that use Amazon?[DOUBLEPOST=1412810479,1412810435][/DOUBLEPOST]

Like I've been saying, WE AREN'T GETTING SCREWED BY THESE PRICES CANADIANS.

Oregon has no sales tax.

Indeed.

We bought this a few months ago.

http://www.amazon.com/Beaba-Babycook-Baby-Food-Maker/dp/B001LQCOIS
http://www.amazon.ca/Beaba-Babycook...?ie=UTF8&qid=1412860787&sr=8-1&keywords=beaba

Same fucking item.

Today it's $107 vs $199 but we bought it on special at $69 (down from $89).

This happens regularly across the board on many items (on Amazon and real-life) and ultimately why on Steam I'm extremely apprehensive on them using it because I severely distrust their ability to use it properly. The Canadian dollar will always be short-changed.

As for those of you who mock my anger at this, you should be ashamed of yourselves. This is a board where we should be able to express ourselves without having to endure this bullshit. Frankly? It actually disgusts me and I feel I'm going to have to consider some things, particularly on my long term association with this website. God knows I don't need this.

Those are all sold by Amazon resellers, not Amazon itself. If an item is sold in Canada by Amazon, you can probably bet you're not going to be paying an inflated price.

I feel like you aren't reading my posts fully. I've already explained multiple times that I do know that you are getting shafted in many ways by inflated prices, and I think that's entirely wrong.

What I'm disagreeing with is that Steam is doing the same thing, because they're not. You're paying the same, or even less in some cases as we are here in the states. I'm not mocking you, and I already apologized for my originally dickish tone regarding the Steam issue. Matter of fact, the only one who's been consistently belittling and insulting in this whole thing is you.

I was mocking him, it's what I do. But if this is what makes him want to leave then.. I really don't know what to say, other than I have to really fight not to mock him over how dramatic he's being.

And he's the one with the outrageous French accent, everything's backwards!

Dude, @Jay, get some sleep or something.

Jay threatening to leave seems to be a bimonthly occurrance. The perfect storm would be right now for Dave to need to update the forum software, which precipitates a small and temporary change in the forum's look and feel. Berets would be stomped.

Also, @Jay Please don't quit the boards over this, It would be almost as stupid as when Gilgamesh quit because he was told to stop funnying Charlie's posts.

Of all the stupid and offensive shit we say on this board sometimes, this is babytown frollicks.[DOUBLEPOST=1412871896,1412871857][/DOUBLEPOST]

Followed by a huge thread about "The direction of the board".... ugh....

Jay, compared to the other forumites, you're a successful professional and so "it's too expensive" sounds very much FWP-ville. So that's what you get teased about. @Dave is old. I'm (at times) clueless. @Yoshimickster is a tangled ball of unbridled enthusiasm. @GasBandit is a complain-y, whiny, ranter. We all have a thing. If this is the thing you don't want to be teased about, then get known for something else so we can tease you about that, instead.
