Random Video Game Crap

Most people are evil. Being rich just gives your inherent evilness agency.

Speaking of evil..

That is going too far. Even Hitler would step back and go, "Whoa, dude. No. Just no."

And the guy who bought the 100 rosalinas claimes to have done so specifically because he hates the character and wants to punish rosalina fans by helping make sure they can't buy the Rosalina amiibo. Apparently he has over $30,000 he's dedicated to the cause of buying up amiibos and hoarding them simply to keep them out of circulation.

Not evil, just dumb.

Nintendo won't say: 'oh my, those sold out so fast! We'll NEVER make more of them, to keep the scarcity value up for scalpers!'. They'll say "oh my, those sold out so fast! Let's make MORE stuff with this character (be it merchandising or Amiibos or whatever), because apparently she's popular'.

Perhaps as far as this item is concerned - but they'll definitely make more other stuff with that character. It's counterproductive if your goal is to have the character appear less.

It's not just a matter of character appearances. People want the Amiibo. They want the stuff that will be done with the Amiibo. A dishrag with Rosaline's face is not the same as a miniature of Rosalina with compatibility towards video games.

That said, I would expect there to later be a Rosalina Amiibo for Mario Party 10 as a weird form of DLC, same as they're re-releasing some Amiibos to be in Mario Part 10, or the re-release of Marth for Code Name Steam.

Certain others, like Sonic and Mega Man, are unlikely to see repeats since Nintendo will have no use for them outside of Smash Bros.

Sonic will probably get a Sonic Boom version for the inevitable sequel.

I wish more stuff was coming to Wii U this year that I was interested in. There are some big profile releases, but I couldn't get into StarFox, and I have a feeling Splatoon will be local 1 vs 1 or one person per Wii U online multiplayer, but no way two people can go online together, which pretty much kills it for me since I can have any other shooter to play alone. Which only leaves Xenoblade Chronicles X and Zelda U.

Of course, Nintendo could announce more stuff as the year goes on and have it out 4 months after that announcement, so I shouldn't be ready to gripe, but there's already so much great stuff coming to other systems, including their own (3DS looks like it's going to have a stellar year that could even outshine 2013).

So Target has everything right now, while other stores are all over the place. I thought I was going to pick up Sonic and Mega Man today, but apparently Gamestop will be getting them at the same time as Walmart--kind of wish I'd kept my Amazon pre-order instead. I might just cancel Sonic, to be honest. I don't have the skills to customize him into Super Sonic. (I love how creative some people have gotten with these.)

But in any case, the disparity is really perplexing and is going to keep some people hunting around for weeks who couldn't get pre-orders for stuff they wanted. If people don't bid on ebay scalper prices, more should become available. I noticed that since Nintendo announced another set of Bowser and Luigi to coincide with Mario Party 10, the Smash Bros figures have become available again on sites that were previously sold out. It could happen with others, I suppose.

I wanna know who sees a video clip of someone in sky heels undulating herself up and down a stripper pole and thinks to himself, "Oh man, I just gotta make a Mario GIF outta that!"

..cuz I bet that guy is fun at parties.

Here's my thoughts on Sarkeesian: Her overall goal isn't a bad one because it does highlight or draw attention to some legitimate problems in the industry, but her specific examples are often terribly chosen because she is not familiar enough with the source material to accurately support her case. She undercuts her own points and quite simply does not do the research, so I can't say I'm a fan. That being said, I'd think any reasonable person would agree that she doesn't deserve the abuse, threats of violence, and animosity that is send her way in terrifyingly huge amounts. Yes, she's completely wrong about Dying Light. That doesn't mean I think she deserves to be told "stupid bitch needs to be raped" in 563 different permutations.

That's the general issue with this whole big mess lately. She's got a decent point, but doesn't do the right research.

The other side sees that she doesn't do the research, and then overreacts in the worst kind of way.

In the end, both sides look fucking stupid.

The truth of the matter is that video gaming is more inclusive and female friendly now than it has ever been in history. But the coverage would have you believe that, at some point in the last 10 years, developers started forming nationwide rape-cults.

Now, if you want to talk about the rampant misogyny among certain video game players, there's definitely a discussion to be had there. But that's different from the argument being presented by Sarkeesian and her ilk, that it is the video games themselves that are to blame for the stunted social skills of basementdwellers who also happen to play video games.
