You guys... Oh my god, you guys... This game is so good. As a Warhammer fan, I just accept that any video game with the license will be shit, but this game is so good. I don't know how to process this. I imagine it's how @GasBandit would feel if he woke up and libertarians were suddenly taken seriously.

I'm pretty sure the graphical quality counts as pretty poor even for 2007
You know what else came out in 2007? Crysis.....Erm, no? It was prettier than Mass Effect, released the same year, if you had a beefy enough rig.
Also, you are playing the Enhanced Edition, right? With everything turned up to 11?
I did not, in fact, have everything turned up to 11. I just turned everything up to 11. I am appeased now......Erm, no? It was prettier than Mass Effect, released the same year, if you had a beefy enough rig.

- The crafting system IS an issue, in that it's poorly explained in game. Once you get used to it then it's fine but it's a steep hurdle for awhile. However, the crafting system exists in this fashion because you use it for more than just making items to use and wear: you also use it as part of puzzles. Once you consider that, it makes sense that they made it the way they did. Though really, eventually the only thing you're going to be using it for it making pots for healing. The gear you get from doing the DLC issues is going to be better than anything you can get outside of PVP or a Nightmare dungeons and you REALLY want to dive into getting the strongest weapons and gear as soon as you can. In fact, I highly recommend you save your marks/bullion for until you can buy/use the gear on Blue Mountain and get THAT stuff instead of the stuff in Innsmouth or Savage Coast. It really makes the earliest areas easier.Secret World is basically City of Villains, if CoV took itself WAY too seriously. And I'm surprised they didn't just go the whole 9 yards and name Innsmouth Academy "Miskatonic University." Every other word in this nonsense is a shoehorned lovecraft reference, and every questgiver has to tell you his complete life story. The crafting system is densely arcane (no pun intended) and requires constant referrals to websites to get to work. And I can't find a dress shirt to go with my suit jacket.
It is nice, though, that you can call in completed quests for the reward instead of having to trudge back... problem is, a lot of quest givers have multiple "main" quests and you have to do them 1 at a time, so chances are you're going to be going back anyway, once or twice. And there sure are a lot of solo instances... are we sure they were actually intending people to group in this game?
The combat system is pretty good, I'll give it that. Just needs more slots on the hotbar.
I generally don't like Shotguns... yes, it has lots of AOE options but so does Pistols, AR, Blood, and Elementalism and some of them are just flat out better. However, I do like the Shotgun single target consumer compared to the pistols one... mostly because Big .45 has an activation time and Out for a Kill doesn't. And yes, the first AOE for Pistols (Wanted) is pretty nice. If you want to use Pistols as your main, I like Collaboration as a builder for the self cleanse. Marked is good for dungeons, as it reduces enemy healing through Corruption. Flak Jacket (Shotguns) is a flat 15% damage reduction for a limited time.I'll probably just deal with having a t-shirt under a suit jacket until I finish building my Bounty Hunter deck. Then I'll look pretty damn sweet.
I thought I'd be maining shotgun with pistols for backup when I needed single target damage, but darn if Pistols isn't coming into its own for area effect... since I got its PBAE which does maybe only 10% less damage than the frontal cone shotgun blast.
It just feels like they intended the game to not be an MMO at all, but they wanted to get in on the MMO hype, so they threw in some multiplayer parts. It's fine to not force people to group, but you can do that without forcing people to solo all the time too..
- They only intended for people to group together for the Dungeons, Lairs, and Raids. You CAN work together on other stuff but most main story stuff is solo, as are infiltration missions and some DLC missions. So no... TSW wasn't designed to force players to group like some other MMOs are but it's an option for a lot of stuff.
On the other hand, you would have blown me up SO many times now if we'd had to share mission instances. It just feels like they intended the game to not be an MMO at all, but they wanted to get in on the MMO hype, so they threw in some multiplayer parts. I disagree. Yeah, but the same is true for Saints Row, and that didn't stop all the multiplayer.I disagree. The main sticking point for the solos bits are...
- Infiltration missions are HARD on occasion and you shouldn't be held back by another player... or be able to cheese the mission by having a better player do it for you.
- The main story missions focus on YOU, as a character, and it would be detrimental from a story perspective to have your friends get the lime-light instead of you or for you to get it instead of them. So the major parts of it are solo... at least until the Orochi Tower in Tokyo. Apparently they decided to allow teaming on Story stuff from them on? I know it's possible to do some of the Orochi Tower as a team at least.
To be fair, Saints Row revels in breaking itself in half. It's half the fun. The Secret World is a much different game.Yeah, but the same is true for Saints Row, and that didn't stop all the multiplayer.
In Saints Row, the multiplayer actually feels natural. To each player, you are the boss, and the other player is just another one of your lieutenants - albeit one who is always around and doesn't show up in cut scenes. Really, the same could have been done in Secret World, I think. To be fair, Saints Row revels in breaking itself in half. It's half the fun. The Secret World is a much different game.
