What are you playing?

I honestly hate cultural victory in this game. I hope they tune it a little.
In the tooltip (when choosing or disabling victory conditions) they call cultural the hardest victory... Which might true on deity or so, but on lower difficulties it really is something you can trigger by accident simply because none of the opponents are investing in it at all.
I won with 38 tourist, having 183 local ones. I'm not saying I expect the ai to keep up with me on Warlord but the difference is a tad big....

I downloaded Skyrim: Special Edition and... immediately went back to vanilla.

That's not to say it's bad, it's not. Out of the box it's very pretty. It's nothing that can't be done in vanilla with high res texture packs and injection lighting upgrades, but it's nice that out of the box SE has it built in, and has some nice shadow work. This image will be spoilered for size

And the fact that it's 64 bit means that when the modders catch up, they'll have even more to work with (assuming that the Skyrim Script Extender can find a way to work, they're working on it right now). But I had forgotten how ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE the default UI is, and until someone ports SkyUI (which needs the SKSE) I consider the game unplayable. Also in need of fixing is the sound. Original Skyrim used uncompressed .wav files, while the special edition uses very aggressively compressed audio. It sounds tinny, especially in the higher pitch ranges, like some footsteps, weapon sounds, or coin clink. I'm not an audiophile, I use bluetooth headphones and listen to mp3s, but even I can hear the poorer quality in sound, and for a game with sounds I know better than my mother's voice, it's painful.

Goodbye for now, Skyrim Special Edition. I'll check back in with you in about 6 months.

Cheerist, no wonder it's free for PC users with the content.

It's a lightly modded vanilla Skyrim.
The fact that it's 64 bit is potentially a big deal, and not something that could be changed through mods, but yeah, if it wasn't free PC users would never buy it. Which makes giving it to pc players smart business, as they are the ones that will be making the mods that they use as a selling point to consoles.

Console, singular. Bethesda says Sony's being a dick about content control, therefore no mods for any Bethesda games on PS4. So it's only Xbox One that gets mods. :/

You are behind in news, Sony relented on that some time ago, Skyrim SE and FO4 both get mods on ps4 now

From what I'm seeing the PS4 is the only platform that doesn't have the sound issue
I'm glad you're well-versed in this shit. Welp, that'll shoot Skyrim SE to the top of my wife's Christmas list.

I can just do modded Skyrim on my PC, so I don't need it; I just hope mods going forward will still work with the non-SE version.

EDIT: Okay, seems Sony still managed to semi-bungle things. They've limited mod space significantly, so a lot of the good ones aren't available on PS4 because they're over 1 GB in size. Maybe they'll fix that in the future too, but right now that leaves little of the good stuff available to PS4 users.

Vanilla Skyrim support isn't going away, though even if it did, if you have Skyrim on steam you get SE for free. But I still foresee vanilla being the mod King, especially if they continue to have problems with the script extender.

Some things to know about PS4 mods. Storage space is more limited on the PS4, and modders are unable to upload their own assets, so things like reskins aren't possible, you are stuck with in game assets. Personally, I don't see that as a huge drawback, but then my favorite mods are really just tweaks while keeping the core gameplay unchanged.

Wait, I own Skyrim on steam. Why does this thing still say its 40 bucks for me?

SkyUI works* on special edition now, so the game is now 100% playable and worth it.

*it's an unofficial port made by the community, and extended functions like using it to control mod configurations won't work until SKSE is updated, but it's fully functional for inventory and trading/merchants.

Didn't the guy/team who made SKSE basically quit making mods after the whole paid mods thing because he/they felt the entire community was acting like entitled assholes?

I was going to wait until both DLCs were out and I was ready to play through the whole game again as a new character, but apparently Dark Souls 3's DLC is dead-set as endgame content, so I might as well just jump in with my current character.

I haven't actually started the DLC yet. It's been enough months since I played any Souls games that I needed to refresh myself at Irithyll fight club. And ooh boy, did they fix some things since I took a break in May. Poise--works? They said it worked before in its non-functionality, but now it works the way it did in the other games, making heavy characters a doable build once more. Now my happy lightweight gets to dance around the heavy-rolls, but also loses the easy staggering that came with a rapier-type weapon.

My Summer Car -

After seven (7!!) hours of trial and error (and error and ERROR AND ERROR), including a fatal collision with a tree, a 60 kph drive straight into a lake, a drunken firewood chopping accident, and standing outside a grocery store all night waiting to spend $325 on a freaking fan belt, I'm finally starting to get the hang of this, I think. At least, I think I've managed to assemble the engine correctly (thanks to some help from the wiki), but every time I try to lower it into the engine bay it falls off the hoist.

PERKELE.

I really enjoy SWTOR, and I don't regret being a subscriber.

BUT.

The amount of missed opportunities is really annoying. I understand that with so many races and classes and companions, it would take a tremendous amount of work to cover all the bases. I get that, especially since the game isn't a huge moneymaker. But at the same time, some of the choices feel so glaring, especially from BioWare.

One of the most consistently great things about BioWare games are the companions, and particularly the freedom you're allowed with party structure, with your NPC buddies interacting during events or something just even talking to each other. And that's lacking, particularly in KOTFE. You can recruit a ton of NPCs but there's really no need to use any of them during the story missions, and in fact most of the time you won't be allowed to.

I'm particularly disappointed over what's probably going to happen with Shae Viszla, aka Mandalore The Avenger. She's going to be an optional companion for people who were subscribers between October 25 and November 28th of this year. She was in one of the main trailers, she's the final boss of the Blood Hunt flashpoint, she's a major NPC in chapter 14 of Knights of The Fallen Empire. She's an established character. But early signs indicate that she'll wind up being like the Nico Okarr companion (the gunslinger smuggler from the Return trailer) - once you recruit her, she'll just be there, with no real dialogue or interactions. And honestly? That sucks.[DOUBLEPOST=1477950529,1477950489][/DOUBLEPOST]

Have you tried wearing sauna pants?

NR would be disappointed in me. I figured out how to work the sauna in my house, but I couldn't figure out how to take off my pants.
I realize you've been on your own for a while now, but really, changing underwear once every few weeks would also be greatly appreciated by your colleagues underlings.

So where does one find such a thing?

Oh man, I want a sauna so bad.
EDIT: I wonder if the Sun is lower in the sky due to the more extreme northernliness of Finland.
EDIT2: Isn't the engine supposed to be transverse mounted?

Played about an hour of Owlboy.

Guys this game is super fun and pretty challenging. The sprite work is gorgeous and emotive, and the music is top-notch. If you're into platformers/side-scrolling action, give it a go.

2: Yeah, I figured that out later.

I still can't get it to mount, though. I'm considering holding off on that, and putting in the suspension/wheels before I mount the engine.
