Coronavirus Thread

I'm listening to my local school board meeting tonight. We had parents talking about how the quality of their kids' education should not be impeded by any distance learning or measuring to keep people safe whatsoever. If they were in charge, school would continue as it had before the pandemic as if nothing in the world had changed.

Apparently the teachers/staff who might have their little darlings cough on us can go fuck ourselves.
For what it’s worth, and I realise very little as my kids aren’t in your area, I am happy to work evenings to help my kids with their remote lessons. Safety first. Everyone’s safety.

I have the benefit of a very flexible job for which I am truly thankful. My boss would let me work evenings for sure to do this unless I’m on the road.

According to rt.live, AZ is currently one of only seven states that is < 1, currently listed as 0.97.
Maine is the lowest at 0.84, and Alaska and Montana are in the "lead" with 1.34 and 1.36, respectively.

Woohoo! Hawaii is 1.22 with only 3 weeks until school starts.

Sounds like some more cities need to get out of their seats and into their streets. Just please remember to wear a mask and properly physically distance while you march.

After finally figuring out that shaming idiots doesn't actually work, Polis mandated mask use in indoor public spaces today.

USA is testing 20x as many people as Canada every day (that's good!)

USA is reporting 200x as many positive cases as Canada every day (that's bad!)

Our daily new cases have gone up from 84...86...88....94...97....116...to 216...
Gee, I wonder if all the people who, after the last easing, have begun throwing big parties and going out every day, and the bars and restaurants completely NOT taking care of social distancing in their environment, are beginning to have an effect?
But if this is happening now....Well, we'll see in 2 or 3 weeks. Damned idiots.

I'm honestly torn right now. We've got my daughter's graduation/birthday party a week from Sunday. We're planning it all to be outdoors. We have masks for guests. My wife even bought a hand-free sanitizer dispenser for it. I'm still watching the cases every day, and I can't commit. If it keeps going up like it is, I'm going to feel like we have to cancel again because no matter how safe we are, we can't compete with everyone who had to go to the beach and party for the fourth.

It is sounding like my university might be going online only (which will hopefully not be financially ruinous). I've begun to take steps to stay down under through the rest of 2020.

I do have my doubts that we will go beyond that August 17th date with anything more than remote learning at MPS.

What's going on down there? Are you already in the second wave?
SECOND?????

We haven't even gotten past the first wave yet!

This does bring into question what the purpose of K-12 education is...

Since, apparently, becoming educated is not the goal, then what remains is: Training children to get used to an office schedule, obey authority, sit still for long periods, etc...
...we’ve had this discussion, about how K-12’s primary (heh) purpose is to train a capable workforce.
