[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

I doubt there was anything wrong with you, but rather something wrong with the store/job.
Well yeah but I had long bouts of unemployment that made it more difficult to find work bc I didn't have a work history. Then when I finally got a dishwashing job I got real depressed bc I was treated like a r slur and I was paid less than the people I was training so I made an even worse first impression on people lol

Whole time I had my family nagging me about not having a "real job" lol. I dropped out of community college and was a runaway lol

Ugggh gotta roll back my new video drivers bc my laptop shut off from the video card running at 100%

Edit: got it fixed, vice city is now smoothly entering my system like pure heroin :3

Inconsistent communication.
Look, I can understand that Google's opening hours are sometimes off due to quick changes. Your own site should probably get it right, though. And you definitely don't want conflicting info on the VERY SAME PAGE.

I called them so I have the answer, quick quiz for my fellow forumites: are they, or are they not, open this Sunday? I'll disclose in advance that it's not some weird Schrödinger's Bookshop open and closed at the same time.

Last time I bought weed I went to the wrong gas station bc google maps had a kangaroo labeled as circle k, and a circle k labeled as kangaroo. And these companies have had a merger

I would assume they are currently closed on sundays and the map was never updated

I don't even like it that much but my little sister is trapped in academia and still living with our parents so I'll buy it for them

I'm clearly fucked up enough to get a card in florida, but that feels like work. I get my drugs in the mail

Smacked my phone down on the counter top yesterday. No more smartphone for me! Serious withdrawal.
Also, since my work soft token was installed on that phone...No work today, whoops. On the phone for over an hour now for a new soft token or whatever.

Let's see if I can get used to and like the OnePlus Nord2! (Nearly) stock android, no bloatware, pretty good specs, bigger and better battery than I had, just a slightly crappier camera.

The Nord are their low-end ones, right? My wife has one. I think they are pretty stellar for low-end phones!

Just got back from urgent care...story time:
So about a month ago, I got what appeared to be a blister on the underside of my index finger. At first, I thought it was from crocheting, until I realized that I don't really touch that part of my finger with anything while stitching. Now, I'm guessing maybe a spider bite.

I lanced it...some clear stuff came out, and then it bled like a stuck pig for 3 days. I wrapped it up really good, and finally the bleeding stopped, and so I unbandaged it so it could dry out and heal.

Several days after that, I was working around the apt, and ripped the skin off. It looked more swollen than ever, and simply wouldn't stop bleeding. And by "wouldn't stop bleeding" I mean--for 2 weeks. If I had it bandaged a little firmly, it wouldn't soak the bandage--but as soon as I took it off each day to change it out, it'd just start leaking immediately.

So I went to urgent care (just got back), and she goes "yeah, it's swollen, because your meat is hanging out..you've lost the entire subcutaneous layer". So she cauterizes it with silver nitrate and tells me "you'll never be a hand model now." heh.

Funny thing: So, before she cauterizes it, she said "this will hurt. I can numb it if you want. Otherwise, just let me know when it hurts too much and we can take a break."

I explain about my anesthesia thing, so she gets everything ready without the numbing. I asked her if it'll affect my finger dexterity, because I play an instrument. She asks what kind, and about half-way through my first explanatory sentence, she starts burning me. I don't flinch, grunt, or even pause what I'm saying, and after a second she goes. "Can you feel that? You might have some nerve damage."

"Oh, I can feel it." "Does it hurt?" "Oh yeah. I told you I have a high pain tolerance, though." So she keeps on doing her thing and I keep on explaining what a tinwhistle is and where she might have heard one in popular media.

Are you familiar with the legend of Guan Yu, a famous general from the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history? The guy who's now venerated as the patron god of warfare? The tale goes that he was once struck in the arm by a poisoned arrow, and the poison got in really deep in his arm bone. A doctor said that the only way to treat it would be to cut Guan Yu's arm open and scrape the poison off his bone. So Guan Yu's all like, "Okay, do it then." So the doctor cut open Guan Yu's arm and did the bone scraping thing, and all the while Guan Yu's sitting there chatting, eating, drinking etc, and just generally being completely unbothered that someone is scraping his bone with a metal implement.

Basically, I'm saying you're comparable to the Chinese war god.

Reminder that I'm not legally allowed to state what company I work for around here. But, you know, we're very busy delivering packages and our logo is orange and purple. Now, let's assume I'm talking about theoretical things, not an actual real life meeting I'm in just now. These things would, of course, never be said by an actual VP for our big socially active and responsible company.

"Airfreight is still very tight, and with a 4th and 5th Covid wave on the horizon, this is good for [company], because we can command higher surcharges and ask for higher premiums for transatlantic and cross-Europe shipping"

"While the job market in the US was problematic, with the wind down of Covid social security deposits we're seeing people willing to return to work for lower and more acceptable wages, keeping our numbers up and protecting our stock"

COULD YOU MAYBE NOT MAKE IT SO OBVIOUS THAT I'M WORKING FOR EVIL CORP?

Was he stroking a white long-haired cat while saying this?

Last delivery of the day, I just HAPPENED to be at the restaurant when the tech-savvy employee was on their day off, who ALSO had the password for their "Grubhub for Restaurants" account. I was there for 20 extra minutes, and was not payed for my time, and probably won't be. Tip well this Holiday season folks, tip well.

Bought the wife a Harry snd David gift box, with pears on the 23rd of November, the package has been sitting at a FedEx "Smart Center" since the 26th to be handed off to the post office tomorrow. If those pears are rotten, I'm going to be REALLY pissed.

FedEx sucks.

That’s not Fedex’s fault, that’s postal service.

Partly. If FedEx is unsatisfied with the Post Offices last mile, then they shouldn't use it. They still charge a premium for delivery, and I would have had the package from the Post Office if it had gone USPS Ground.

Thing is, my job is at a drop shipper, so I know exactly what they are like and how bad they are.

WELP-the AVI-HDMI converter gives video almost EXACTLY the same quality if I were to plug the damn AVI cables into my regular ass TV. Glad it was less than 20 bucks, but still.

... Would you expect anything different? If it's coming through an avi cable then you are capped at what avi is capable of

I thought it would at least look less pixaly is all, like if it was on a standard def tv.
Standard def is SUPER pixelly. You just didn't notice it on CRT TVs because your brain fills in the black space between the pixels (the dot pitch on old tube TVs was HUGE). When put on a modern TV with no space between pixels, the true resolution leaves very little black space for your brain to interpolate and so it looks... how it looks.

Bear in mind too that these comparisons are not to equal scale. That LCD block in the lower right probably is the size of a single one of those TV CRT pixels.

Phosphor dots are not pixels! They are similar in many ways, but there are significant differences, some of which would be easier to see if they weren't showing a full brightness white.

Most analog to digital converters are going to be focused on recorded analog video, not some sort of computer generated digital output. So their goals are generally to get as crisp and clear of a picture out of the analog signal as possible, and the tech for that has been at a plateau for such a long while that the TV and the converter probably use the same chip, or same tech within other chips.

If you want to make old games look better on a modern TV, you'll need something that's focused on making games look good, which sometimes means not doing as good of a job of filtering out the color from the luminence.

I know there are devices that can do a pretty decent job of making old systems look good on modern TVs, but they tend to be on the pricey side (and I'd rather emulate old systems than dig out my retro hardware), so my brain has not retained all the names and details. A quick google shows that stuff like the RetroTINK and Framemeister are what I'm thinking of, but I can't remember which the strengths/weaknesses are, or any other details. Though MetalJesusRocks on YouTube may be a good place to look for info on upscalers.
