The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

If you might remember, the HR third party vender Cargill uses got hacked at the beginning of the year. Because of that, they paid people the average of what they made for the four weeks prior to the hack. Some people got underpaid since they were on vacation and then came back and worked a lot of overtime. Stuff like that. Me? I’d worked a shitload of overtime and then started on shift, which means I was overpaid like $2000+.

Found out today if you were overpaid like I was we do NOT have to pay it back! Holy crap! I’ve been very worried about this. Now I no longer have to.

My therapist called me an asshole in our session today.

Now before you call for her head and demand she be fired, know the context:

I told her how I learned during the pandemic that you can order Cineplex popcorn through UberEats. She loves popcorn.

So I had it coming.

I took it as she intended: a joke. I understood she wasn't actually calling me an asshole. It was a hilarious sarcastic remark that me and other friends would say to each other over a silly, trivial thing. We've had 3 sessions so far and have built a good report. I laughed hard.

Something she made me realize, though, is since (finally!) moving out of my parents place a few months ago, I've made a lot of good positive changes. Biking to work every day. Cooking for myself more. Little responsibilities that I think I took for granted as necessities.

Last week, I worked my first week of full-time hours again at work. And every day, I went to Booster Juice for lunch. And I realized I couldn't continue to afford that on a daily basis. So last weekend, I made a BIG batch of chili in the slow cooker that's lasted me all week.

I even mentioned that I listened to jazz while cooking because that's just something I used to enjoy doing when I lived on my own before for whatever reason. She said I'm already doing a lot of positive things compared to months ago and I may not be fully aware of it.

And I honestly wasn't. I'm hard on myself a LOT. And I've been hard on myself since I moved out. But I realized I could just as easily have just kept eating out, not caring about my financials, not keep up on bike maintenance, and other positive things. But I really turned around.

The start of the year feels like a blur by comparison. I was incredibly depressed, was on the verge of just quitting my job rather than returning, and couldn't even begin to imagine being where I am now. And that...feels pretty good.

I still wouldn't say I'm necessarily "happy." I'm lonely. I don't know if I'd say I'm "depressed," either. I feel like all these new responsibilities have kept me too busy to really be depressed. Almost like my ADHD has hyper-focused on getting shit done that needs to get done.

Full title (since it gets cut off): "Research concludes that six ingredients are key to habit formation: Habits are automatic, do not depend on goals, and take time to develop (e.g., on average, 18 to 254 days). In addition, habits are cued by context, learned through repetition, and promoted by rewards."

You're both Covid negative? I think? And you're trying to win the Cubcar championship in style?
I won Best in Show (coolest design) and Fuel Efficient! (Fuel Efficient being a euphemism for coming in last. It took some serious math but I worked out how to make my car always stop 2 ft from the finish line, note that I am 60% underweight in a potential energy contest, muhuhahaha!)

You’re pregnant?!?
My car was designed to look like a rapid-test for covid-19, but I could understand that Americans may have different looking tests.

On Monday, I got to go see an actual, honest-to-goodness heavy metal show. It was in Laval, a different, though nearby, city, so I left on Sunday and returned yesterday.

I got to see Judas Priest (for their 50 Metal Years tour) with Queensryche opening. Didn't know Qyeensryche outside of their reputation, they were cool but not the revelation that Saxon had been when I saw Priest in Ottawa in 2018 (on the Firepower tour).

Priest were GLORIOUS. Played just about all my favourites (would it KILL you to play Bloodstone, Christ), lost my mind when they launched into The Sentinel. Faulkner has clearly recovered superbly from his heart issue, Sneap felt a lot more like an actual band member rather than a stand-in for Tipton, Travis destroyed those drums, Hill was... present, and Halford seemed to have aged backwards a tad. Nowhere near his prime, but closer to it than four years ago. Maybe that forced rest during the pandemic did him some good...

Dear GOD , I've missed this SO MUCH. Next up is Nightwish with Beast In Black opening in Montreal in early May. Gonna be fun.

Been talking with my son about getting off of our car insurance. He's 30 and needs to start paying for his own stuff with his full time job money. He only has 2 bills - car payment and phone. So he could afford it. I asked him last week and he said he had no money. HOW?!? Well, turns out he PAID OFF HIS CAR!! Which was perfectly fine with me. Good job! So today he went and got his own insurance. He's paying $150 LESS for his insurance than he was for his car payment. Score!

But that's not the epic win. I went and took him off of our insurance. Our payments went from $448 a month...to $69 a month. I upped the coverage on Kerri's truck from liability to full comprehensive coverage and now my monthly will still only be $131 a month. So I upped her coverage and I'm STILL saving $300 a month! Holy crap is that a load off. That means I'll be saving an ADDITIONAL $900 before our trip in July.

Just discovered the ice tray in my freezer was, in fact, TWO trays; one stacked inside the other.

This is a revelation. The tray(s) came with the place. Now I can freeze TWICE the amount of ice into tiny cubes to cool my water.

Little stuff like this is fun as an adult. It's like when you're a kid at Christmas and you get socks. You're like "Ugh, socks? I wanted a new He-Man toy!"

But then you hit a certain age and you're like "SOCKS! Fuck yeah! I can finally throw out that really holey pair!"

I've lived in this apartment for 3 months now and I've been freezing ice cubes one tray at a time like a sucker? I say to thee no more!

Today I opened my bank account to quite a surprise. Seems that, unbeknownst to me, the Michigan government decided back in March to hand out refunds due to the unexpected surplus in Michigan's catastrophic claim fund, to the tune of $400 per car, and we have two cars (one of which we are still paying on).
I immediately turned around and used it to make a significantly-larger-than-normal car payment. Score!

I need new socks, and this was like the first Christmas my folks didn't buy me any. How could they! DON'T THEY KNOW?!

Question, does separating the trays have the added benefit of making it easier to get the ice out?

So let's see.
-Biked about 50 km total today. (from Dartmouth to my yoga rock and back)
-Hiked for about 30 minutes.
-Did 10 minutes of yoga this morning and another 20 minutes at my yoga rock
-And swam for a short bit in the lake.

Let's put it this way: on average I burn about 3,000 calories a day (according to my Fitbit). Today, I've burned 6,000 and the day isn't even over yet. That's obviously not an exact science, but you get the idea.

I'm completely exhausted.
