What are you playing?

My horse is tired.

So that new resident evil game is coming out on pc soon isn't it? It's coop too.... Any reviews in yet?

If you like Socom, yes. It has a good bit of Res-Ev lore in it, but it is definitely not canonical.
You get to kill Leon at least
which is nice...

Every one tells me that Assassin's Creed games past the first one are such huge improvements but I'm trying to play the first one to get to the later ones and it makes me so mad. WHY ARE YOU ANGRY AT ME? Why am I not allowed to trot on horseback? Not run or sprint, just light press forward on the stick trot.

So instead, I will play some Alan Wake: American Nightmare.
I do have to say, it is slightly bizarre to feel so strongly about a lack of trotting in Assassin's Creed equestrianism. It's like saying, "Skyrim makes me mad because when I draw my sword, I can't see my character's face in the reflection of the blade." It's technically true, but... well... you're kinda missing the point of the game.

Your analogy is far more bizarre than my impatience at traveling at the speed of a God damn snail.

Oh, ok, I think you thought I meant I couldn't trot as in I technically couldn't. I can. Trotting is in fact the default speed of the horse. But apparently in the holy lands there, anyone trotting on horseback must be immediately killed on sight. I had a soldier freak the fuck out and try to kill me because he walked into the ass of my horse. It's really God damn insane.

Oh I get it now. Yeah, the first game didn't do the blend mechanics all that well. Don't worry, it's much better in the later games.

Yeah, but it's by the shitty SOCOM team.

I haven't seen a single positive review for it. Mediocre at best reviews are as good as it got.

Seeing as I picked up the Assassin's Creed bundle this weekend, I figured I should probably start working on the games. I had already played the first one on PS3. The horse riding thing was probably the number 1 complaint about the game when it first came out. Hence why in AC 2 you can ride a crowd of people fucking DOWN and the guards won't do anything.

So, after playing through Oblivion three times (once with a sword-and-shield fighter, once with a stealthy archer, once with a magic specialist), I figure I'll try the mod Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. It's meant to make the game much harder, but I figure how bad could it be? I know the game inside and out now, I'll have the best of all three of my previous builds: Start fights with a stealthy arrow, cast debuff spells as the enemy gets to mid-range, then finish him off in close-range combat. Simple, right?

First quest in the game, on my way to Weynon Priory to deliver the amulet, I come across a Gargoyle (new enemy added by the mod, looks sort of like a buffed Imp) by the roadside. I hit him with an arrow. He hits me with a spell that paralyzes me, drains all my magicka, causes my health to drop constantly, and damages my stats. Also, since I'm paralyzed, he just waltzes up and one-shots me to death.

Okay, I think to myself, so this game's quite a different prospect now. I load my save and start plugging the Gargoyle from long range with arrow after arrow, casting spells when I can, except I have to dodge his spells with perfect timing, since a single hit is enough to lead to death. Finally, after about a dozen deaths and reloads, I manage to kill it (with some help from an Imperial Legionnaire who happened to be passing by), and when I loot the corpse, there are 27 iron arrows in it. And those are just the arrows I could retrieve. I must've hit it with at least 50 in total.

So I keep playing and get to the part where I'm helping the Kvatch soldiers retake the city. Usually I can keep my NPC allies alive throughout this whole section, but this time? First fight, every NPC except the essential ones go down. With me dying a few times too, for good measure.

This game is now an incredible sadistic gaming experience for the player. The forces of Oblivion and the wilderness are ready to snuff out your existence in the blink of an eye. And it's utterly, utterly awesome. :D

So before Diablo hit I was playing Lord of the Rings: War in the North. It's alright. You choose one of three heroes (Dwarf Guardian, Human Ranger, Elf Sorceress) and it basically controls like a typical 3rd person action-RPG. Level up, get items, get skills, etc. It works like that LotR RPG from a few years ago (Third Age, I think it was?) in that you intersect with the main LotR story here and there, but not at any major plot points that I've seen so far. The first area, for example, is you taking on Goblins and Orcs as a distraction so Frodo and the Hobbits won't get overrun further south.

Am playing Dragon's Dogma. It is fun,if a little tedious (no fast travel?what year are we in?1995?).
One of the more epic moments?Clinging onto a griffon as it flys higher into the sky, whacking at its head till i run out of stamina and as i fall to my doom, my npc follower catches me.

Yeah I gave Dragons Dogma a shot. The character customizing and animations are way better than Skyrim.

If they make a PC version, I'll buy it.

I like the way that the folks at giant bomb described it. They said that Dragon's Dogma is like the exact opposite of Skyrim. Everything Skyrim does great(engaging story and world), Dragon's Dogma does terribly. But everything that Skyrim does badly (combat, character animation), Dragon's Dogma does great.

Wait, you didn't like Skyrim's combat?

You guys were clearly playing a different game than I was - mine being where 95% of things I fought died to a single powerattack. Those that didn't fell to the mighty shieldbashing stunlock.

That is, the ones I didn't just one-shot from range with stealthed archery.

I disagree.

IMO you guys are terribad and play on easy settings to even think that. I'm playing this game on MASTER and you make sure to not suck. Melee and Archery is on point. The only issue is that Magic spells are somewhat lackluster (mod fixes that though). I also didn't use the alchemy/enchanting exploit to max armor/weapons.

So yeah.... a full TROLOLO coming to those who think Skyrim combat is clunky.

The clunkiness comes a full 18 inches in front of the monitor IMO.

That honestly sounds like the most boring game ever.

But it is. It's not even as fleshed out as (has been pointed out in the past on this forum by many people) Dark Messiah, a 6 year old game.

Don't get me wrong, love Skyrim, but combat mechanics are not it's strongest point.

Skyrim is still beating out Diablo 3 as my favorite game of the year, but yeah, combat is clunky, get over it. Just because I can successfully overcome it's clunkyness doesn't mean it's not there.

GB, if you're one shotting everything, that wouldn't have anything to do with skill.

I wouldn't know how the combat was on vanilla. I'm running about 50mods now, 4-5 of them combat related.

This game is perfection in the fact that any tweak I do, just makes it that much more amazing.

Trust me, if you don't remember trying to defeat Sir Roderick the Chaos Knight, you don't know what clunky controls are.

(I nearly screamed out loud when he flung a perfectly good magic longsword out into the darkness for no reason other than finding a slightly better one.)
