Being sick is so not a vacation....
I think I want to move to Europe.
I guess that's the way it is then, at least for the current while. Does sound a bit excessive to me, though. It might be difficult enough as it is for Europe to dig it's way out of this hole and improve productivity, even without an effective ~10% increase in health-related absences from work.
Wow... the top tier paid vacation allotment I can get in my current industry is 20 business days a year... and that's about 5-10 years away for me. I've been working in this industry for 10 years currently.

Interesting. Could work in my favor, since I work at a European company and the boss is keen on keeping things aligned with Europe. Just today he told us he was planning on bringing in lunch everyday (we already get quite a few free lunches) because it's become commonplace for companies to feed employees in Europe.
Yep, then their time in the sun will come to an end and their version of the global economy will crash. Wonder who'll be up after them, assuming the world itself hasn't been blasted into nuclear winter by that point.

I'm telling you guys... Africa is going to be the next China. Someone's going to get their shit together, industrialize, and then start undercutting the Chinese. And that's assuming that China doesn't have a huge social upheaval like we did at the end of our industrial revolution.
So the guy at the top changes. Business as usual for the rest of us.
Well, costs in China will rise in time, of course. But I'm sure the employees are currently getting paid what their contract says, which would be the market rate for what their skills are worth there. I'm not sure it is accurate to claim they are being exploited.
Could be, though there is a lot of shit to be gotten together first in Africa. China does seem to be investing sunstantially there, though.
It's not going to be Africa, it's going to be Brazil or India. Huge populations, rapid industrialization, access to resources, and increasing emphasis on education and worker training can call be found in those two countries. It'll be one or both of them, and then we'll see what happens. Should be an interesting few decades coming up.
India's already in the midst of their tech revolution, it's just they have a caste system and a violent neighbor holding them back. I could totally see it being Brazil though.
