[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Well, for anybody looking for a different droid weather widget that replaces beautifulwidgets, I suggest Fancy Widgets. They can be set to use accuweather instead of google.

There's a setting in Beautiful Widgets to use Accuweather instead of Google. That's what I'm using and it updates fine.

Hrm, I looked like crazy for a way to change my beautiful widgets' weather API and I couldn't find it.
I just tap the current conditions to bring up the forecast, use your menu button, and go into settings. There should be weather settings in there, first option is what weather service you want to use.

I can't find the regular rant thread so I'm putting this here.

My nephew* starts school next week (Junior Kindergarten. Don't know if you guys have that elsewhere or if that's an Ontario thing. Whatever). The Schoolboard is telling my sister and brother in law he can't ride in a school bus because his cerebral palsy and hemiplegia make him an "evacuation hazard".

*Always link to my sister's site, cause I'm sure there's always going to be SOMEONE who isn't familiar with my nephew's various medical conditions no matter how often I post about it.

... the hell is an "evacuation hazard?" Does that mean they don't think they can get him out of the bus in time if it catches fire or something?

That really is horse shit, checkeredhat . I mean, for as long as I can remember (1982 is my earliest memory, though it was incredibly fuzzy, being that I was 2) they've had to make allowances on school buses for disabled/otherly-abled kids, whether they've been wheelchair bound, required braces, or crutches, or what-have-you. Does the school board also require sports players who've been injured and are in casts or air-splints to not ride the buses? I don't know how bad Canada's been impacted by litigation fears, but this sounds entirely like the school board is afraid there would be a lawsuit brought against them if helping your nephew off of a bus delayed the evacuation of other students, so they're going to ban him instead.

He moves around just fine on his own, too. It's not even like he requires crutches or anything. Just his AFOs, so his walking looks a little weird, but he gets around on his own just fine, and can run surprisingly fast when he wants to.

alright, sister shed a bit more light on it. Less horse shit than I initially suspected
The only way he could ride the bus is if he can independantly get up the high steps by himself. If he is unable he will need to be transported by a school VAN equipped with a carseat for him. To which Dan and I reply that that is pointless. If our son cannot be integrated with the other kids in a fair manner then I will take the liberty of driving him to school myself every morning. It has nothing to do with the school. In fact, the principal is trying to advocate for us also. It is the "transportation planner" who makes this decision. We will be taking Dexter to the nearest bus yard to see if he can climb the stairs independantly FIRST, then we will be researching their policies before going into battle. I don't want Dexter to be left out, he already deals with so much. I also know that kids can be cruel and I don't want to give them any ammunition.

Well, that is much better. Hopefully he can make it up the steps and it won't be an issue, or he'll be able to make it up them in a few years and can start riding the bus when he's in elementary school or some such.

I don't know why women think getting a perm is such a great thing. They stink, literally and figuratively. And they pretty much always make you look stupid. Unless your hair already goes down to your butt (in which case WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO CHEMICALLY ABUSE IT), you can virtually always count on the results making you look like this:

One of my coworkers were let go yesterday and since I was the last one to perform his job that means I was selected to fill in and train the new guy. The only problem is that I have not done his job for a year and the processes have all changed. So I have one week to learn all the new processes and than teach them to the new guy.

I really hate having valuable information regarding various topics. Topics which impact multiple members of, say, an online forum community. And I can't say them. It really sucks.

Shocking death of a coworker--heart attack in the middle of the night. :( His poor wife is heartbroken. Memorial service is tonight. He's being cremated, and in the school gym, we're going to celebrate his life and our good memories.

It would seem a cricket has escaped Einstein's terrarium, and is now singing the song of its people in my living room. I can't find the damn thing, though. Naturally.

I know that feel, bro.
I found it. It was sitting there in the middle of the floor as I was heading to bed. Turned out to not be one of hers, it was a big ol' bush cricket that somehow got inside. I thought about feeding it to her, but thought better of it when I realized I had sprayed raid in all nooks and corners I had thought it was hiding in, and that was probably why the thing was sitting in the middle of my floor and not even jumping away when I cam near.

I've been using worms on Yoshi lately. He now gets crickets as a treat about once a week or so. He seems pretty happy. :)

I love my father, but there is something he does which is fucking disgusting. Whenever he cooks or mixes something, like earlier today when he made some salsa from scratch, he licks his fucking spoon while he cooks. He stirs for a bit, then stuffs a spoon full into his mouth, then he puts the same spoon back in and keeps stirring. He even does this before dipping the spoon into a jar of condiments or ingredients, tainting the whole fucking jar. ARGH!

That's nasty.
You have no idea how often this exchange takes place at my parents' house:

"I made some salsa!"
"No thanks Dad, I'm good."
"But I thought you liked salsa...?"

You can replace "salsa" with anything my dad makes. Thankfully my mom does most of the cooking.

When ever my mother cleans a glass, rather than taking a dry dish out of the drying rack and putting the wet glass in she merely props the glass on the kitchen counter while it's still wet. One this is how mildew collects and two it's hazardous for glass to be propped up in such a way. I love my mother but she sucks at cleaning.

When im working behind the counter making Sushi, dont just skip the line and order directly from me.We have waitresses for a reason.

If I'm helping you, and you bring your whole family, this does not mean you get to pull the, "Now that we're finished, can you help my wife/daughter/sister/friend/dog/neighbor/tapeworm/e. coli/mother-in-law with his/her needs, too?"

I have other people I need to help after you. I have a list of these people, which I am following. Unless your w/d/s/f/d/n/t/e./m is on that list, what you are doing is trying to give your companion(s) cuts/cuts-back, which simultaneously brings my caseload closer to "unrealistic" territory and is unfair to the others who are actually using the system.

Ugh. Humans and their social structures.

I freaking hate it when people who are younger than me give me advice when I don't ask for it. What is it about college freshmen that makes them think they're smarter than everyone?

Even if it's good advice? What if they have a unique perspective or experience that might prove helpful to you?

Tress, you weren't listening. They're younglings. Mere tadpoles in the big pond on the hill. They probably don't even realize there were 2xGeorge Bushes.
