Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

The democrats are playing the how to lose control of the government as quickly as possible game very well. No student loan relief, BBB dead, Pelosi reminding everyone she's a fucking soulless ghoul all in 24 hours.

I disagree. I think the people steering it are the awful ones who don't need saving. The majority of the rest of us, though...we deserve some saving, and I'm all for that. I don't feel like the other 99% of us deserve to be dragged down to ruin because the ruling 1% felt like they had to go and prove something to each other.

The majority of that 99% still vote for them. You can feel it's worth saving, but I still feel we get what we deserve as a society.

The majority of that 99% still vote for them.
But it's been barely over 50% that actually vote most of the time, with the record turnout last year of over 60%...

And that's in the biggest election, president.

I wonder what the % is for most other federal ones.

Democrats, schmenocrats. What we have is too many people wielding their position of power as a means to enrich themselves and their buddies and to Hell with the interests of the general populace. It is 100% opportunistic capitalism.

This. Democrats, and even up here in Canada with the Liberal party (or probably even the NDP), they're all looking to fill their own pockets and don't actually care about making REAL progress. Because any real progress would involve so many laws and regulations depowering corporations. And there are far too many lobbyists from said corporations that curb stomp any significant progress. So what we get are tiny bits of progress here and there that MIGHT be good for some, but isn't really as progressive as it could be.

Lol, that's what I said!

The fed NDP is a fucking mess of this. It's become a machine to enrich Singh and crew and they're fucking terrible at that too. Local NDP folk just get stonewalled by the feds.

RE: Redacting the report: The amount of resistance he is showing against going through with this (and other things) makes me think there must be some kind of entity/group/agreement that has sufficient influence to keep him turning it down. I don't know if it's a direct influence (e.g., "Do it or we'll tell the media about xxxx!) or an indirect influence (e.g., "Gee I'd sure hate to miss out on those sweet lobbyist payments"), but the very strong suggestion that there's ANY kind of influence that might be steering Presidential decisions is making me uncomfortable.

Nancy Pelosi changed her tune after speaking to a few billionaires. I'm convinced this is entirely about removing the threat of poverty from a portion of a population, because doing so would make less willing to work for low pay and/or bad conditions. We're already seeing this in the service industry... imagine what would happen to Corporate America if suddenly white collar workers and doctors had the option of just... not doing their jobs until they were offered a better deal.

There is no economic reason not to just dissolve the debt; it's money that doesn't exist in the economy and it's to the entity that issues the money. The only real effect it would have is to give workers more freedom and THAT is something the bosses are terrified of.

Don't forget the US Armed Forces. Most people that get recruited do so because they are poor and / or in debt, and don't really have any other options then to enlist. Why would some kids just out of college sign up for the army to possibly go get killed in another country when they don't have the looming shadow of debt about to suffocate them? You can bet a lot of people high up in command were not exactly thrilled at the idea of losing soldiers.

Hmm. So the "Kanye for President" may have just been a GOP plot?"
Looks like it was, or else it was the plot of big GOP supporters “acting independently.”

Welp, Joe Manchin just blew up the BBB plan that Biden has worked on for months. On Fox News this morning Manchin repeated a bunch of false data and talking points claimed by conservatives and then took a shit on the very notion of Biden accomplishing anything for the rest of his term. Referring to Biden as a radical was an especially nice touch.

It turns out the Republicans have actually been in control of the Senate 51-49 this whole time.

I’m one of the evil moderates some of you like to talk so much shit about around here, and I still thought the BBB was a weak, middle-of-the-road proposal that should have done more for this country. Yet Manchin acted as if was written by Karl Marx himself. What a stupid asshole.

Thank goodness they spent all fucking year trying to woe Manchin onto the BBB even splitting the bill so that they could bravely hand a victory to republicans while suffering this devastating failure.

Yeah, nearly 50 years of excellent democracy, considered the most stable in South America, destroyed by a US backed coup that lead to decades of despotism and it's 'SOCIALISM's fault.

By the way, the guy Boric was up against thought Pinochet was misunderstood.
