The Jay Show

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages! Halforums proudly presents to you a no-holds-barred, tongue-in-cheek interview extravaganza where YOU... a cherished poster of Halforums will put themselves ON THE LINE and receive no less than 10 Questions from yours truly. What better way than to answer these… “Risqué” questions that this humble host will ask of you so that the Halforums community will finally get to know you better and more importantly provide great enjoyment for your peers.

However, a word of caution… for the questions will be… well “Jay-like” and you MUST be frank in your answers. Those who dodge and turn, surrendering in their time of need like some French soldier should absent themselves from participating directly. Furthermore, this goes for party-poopers as well.

The original plan is to set this up as a bi-weekly event, so that it remains fresh and amusing and we’ll work it from there.

Do note, I will not select my interviews by order of entry but rather by whom I personally judge can provide the most amusement. However, as people turns are processed, eventually, you’ll be called up to podium with yours truly. I do however would like you to kindly note that I’m open to bribery... sending me PMs that you want in and amusing me, will work… as well as currency… in Euro... or tits.

How it works:

A vict… I mean…. a respected fellow poster is “selected” a few days before the official interview process. This selection is publicly announced.
Fellow posters are very welcomed to “Bamboozle” the guest with a staged question of their own once the name selection is announced. They can send me their questions and may or may not be used in the interview process.
We discuss in PMs and arrange a date where you’ll be most available to answer the questions in the next few days. You’ll receive the question as per agreed date and you must provide answers in return shortly thereafter. The questions will be about ANYTHING, however as I don’t want drama to result, I will not ask you questions in regards of controversial subjects (aka, religion, politics). We must keep things entertaining and you must answer frankly and honestly. The way the interviews process may change, especially in the beginning as I find my stride in how I'd like to proceed. Perhaps in the form of a few questions at a time with follow-up questions following up by how you answered. Ventrilo interviews are different as well.
The host will prepare the interview; garnish it in ways to provide additional amusement.
Interview is posted, feedback/comments are encouraged.
The questions selected are completely and utterly my own choice.
Feel free to press Like to any posters you'd like to direct to the podium.... more likes gets more interest from me and ultimately more ratings. Whore yourselves out.
Traditionally the interview process will be text based, however, I'd be open to Ventrilo interviews even though those require far more work and... less of an opportunity to... escape the pressure. A pressure cooker situation of sorts.

I discussed this idea with Dave and got the thumbs up and even discussed quickly about how favorite interviews may be polled by forum members and perhaps some sort of small prize can be provided. We'll see, no promises.

However, kindly note that this is not something for those:

Who are easily insulted, or find themselves sensitive about certain subjects like sexuality or whatnot.
Cannot appreciate a good joke, even those who have been beaten by a dead horse.
Refuse to answer questions that puts them on the spot.
Who don’t like me (if that is the case, you wouldn’t even have read this thread! Bwahaha)
Cannot meet scheduling timelines, have a busy schedule, "things come up".

You should instruct people to "like" the posts of those they want you to interview here. You don't necessarily have to pay attention to the number of likes a person has in your interview order, but it could be a useful piece of information.

I'm willing to be interviewed, but I laugh at your guidelines.

That was what I was thinking. Skype or something, so it'd be easier to hear whether someone was being less than frank, or dodging and weaving. Also limits the usefulness of teleprompters.

I have to admit that these early attempts at provoking me are tasty to say indeed.... also bribery is already on full throttle. Did I already mention my first post only has 1 like thus far?

Interesting... I can cater to special requests. I'll have to... contemplate on that. You shall receive... one like from this host with the most.

I'd like to cater some live interviews. Perhaps in the form of Ventrilo, something I'm very familiar with, where I can record the interview and can be easily converted to an MP3. I believe my lackey Darryl has some expertise in that regard.

However, to be frank... I don't want people to be limited because of a lack of a proper microphone, having to endure my french accent, the mute.... etc.

Hmm, I have to balance the side that thinks Jay would just ask me insulting/humiliating questions that would make me feel bad with the side that likes talking about myself. I'm gonna be on vacation this coming long weekend, so unless we did it like tomorrow, I probably wouldn't have time until ~a couple weeks. I guess I'm interested.

EDIT: yeah, I'm in, but would prefer text over voice. I am going on vacation tomorrow and will be gone a few days, not that I was expecting to be the first one chosen or anything.

One of my major concerns with voice interviews after an initial analysis is that a lot of people may not be able to listen to it.... especially those who are at work. Also, it's clearly a longer thing to do.

But, I'll shall try to balance things.

I've been working on the format I want to use... so far, the first draft is likable... but requires more work. Did I mention there will be popular "skits" involved? As well as "Jay's What Would You Do?" and of course... pick the "Most desirable option".

I'm interested, though I will probably fail due to the "don't want to deal with people who have too many projects going" clause (any interview would likely have to be non-voice due to conflicts). But I promise to reward the patient by making them at least a little uncomfortable.

Furthermore, if you truly want to interviewed kindly do review your first post and state if you want a text interview or a voice one. You're welcomed to use colors to get more attention, get people to like your posts by providing them favors in return sexual or not... heck, you can go right and whore yourself out.

Do realize that the most likes will not mean they'll automatically win... but it will make them a clear opinion to pursue.

I do see that support is indeed very strong for you... but will you have to endure your promises to earn these likes as you promised and you'll have to reveal yourself on video according to my whims. I can work with that indeed... didn't you mention something about a local folk dance for the kind people of Paradise? Celtic you say? Intriguing.

I'll give this another day or so.... and I'll announce in a different thread whom I selected and give people time to get a few bamboozles in and for me to work on how/what to do.

But before I do that, another 24 hours to give people a bit more time to throw their names in here, try to gather support and generally whore themselves out.

I don't know how I missed this... this has so much potential for epicness... potential that must be teased out of it's shell, lovingly crafted by gentle hands... then smashed with Gallagher's Sledge-o-matic.

Honestly, this could be a great deal of fun... Count me in! I could probably do a video-style interview, a la LittleSin's idea (not terribly original, but I am always on the lookout for a good idea to steal! ), but I'd need a bit to finagle it onto my computer... I could POSSIBLY do voice/vent on my work terminal, with a little judicious covering.

You have not given enough information. Which flavor of MPEG are you starting with? MPEG-1, -2, or -4? And since AVI is merely a container file, you did not say which codec you wanted to use inside of that container. I ask because AVI can already contain MPEG, so I don't know if you're looking for something which can actually transcode to a new format, or something that just rewraps an existing MPEG into an AVI container.

Either way, this will probably do the job without leaving the comfort of the GUI.

I've updated the first post with clear links to the interviewee threads and well as to their download links. I also vandalized the application posts of those who have already gone through the ordeal since it began with a custom-personally made picture. TAKE THAT.

I'm looking over the thread and before I move on my next selection kindly note that I'll only consider those applicants who have ONCE AGAIN updated their posts with the NEW AND IMPROVED "I'm In" logo that must be attached to their posts. Must make sure only the deserving get considered! BWA HA HA.

Since our.... forum admin gave us the new ability to interact with people's posts, why not go back in this thread (this applies to all) and tag a few likes and loves and whatnot for your more interesting candidates who'll be my next vict- I mean.... volonteer?

And lastly, I enjoyed the co-host option and will continue with previous-interviewee to assist hosting the next interviewee. I hope others enjoyed it as well.

I suggest you decide who you want to interview, and send a message and ask them. If they decline, move on to the next person you want to interview. Why bother asking who wants to be interviewed, then making them jump through hoops to stay in the running? There's a whole group of people between the "willing to sign up in the thread" and "refuse to be interviewed" bins.

It's the second time he's required people to go back and edit their original post (both times with two different pictures) to indicate they still want to be interviewed.

Either he thinks some people are no longer interested, and he wants to avoid asking someone if they only did the first edit, or he's testing people for compliance with excessive requests (which is unlikely but funny to think about).

I haven't gone through the thread to see who has done this to their original posts, but I'm thinking that it's narrowing his selection down quite a bit.

I'm not complaining - I'm just pointing out that it's interesting to me.

If I can offer any suggestions, I'd try to limit your interviews to less than a full hour. Maybe around 10 minutes or so. That way it's not as much work to do it and people can listen to it on a whim. It took me 15 minutes just to download the interview. I'm not saying that you're not interesting, or your interviewees aren't interesting, but Titanic was only 3 hours long.

I second this. Some of the best interviews I've ever seen have been in the 10-15 minute range. Basically, you're trying too hard. The interviews themselves are the real draw; you don't need to try for such a grand production.

For me, I like the interviews the length that they are. I barely know anyone here, so it's nice to hear them chatting with someone else for a while. I don't think 15 minutes is long enough. Maybe 30 minutes at the very least. But thats just me.
