Rant VIII: The Reckoning

And there goes *another* tooth collapsing. What the hell, man? I brush every freaking day and this is how you repay me?

If that's me, then what about my mom, who just wildly flunked her pre-hip-surgery dental exam. One abscess and four extractions required. :Leyla:

I think some people just lose the genetic lottery when it comes to teeth. I'm 36, always been an obsessive brusher and flosser, and I've been battling my teeth rotting out of my head for half my life.

Now it seems my kids are headed down the same path - my oldest (nine) has had five cavities (and two root canals, but that's due to breaking his front two teeth last Halloween), and my five year old has had three fillings in his baby teeth. Our dentist just kind of shrugs and says "sometimes you do all you can do" while cashing our checks.

It can be genetics, but it could also be diet. If you consume a lot of acidic foods (coffee, soda, lemon, etc.) that can weaken teeth. Having both is probably murder on some teeth.

For fucks sake!

So I found a yoga studio downtown that offers an energy exchay program. Basically, you volunteer X number of hours a week (usually around 5). In exchange, you get an unlimited pass for classes.

The woman I was supposed to meet with has now cancelled on me THRRR TIMES. All three times, I'd already made the trip downtown. In fact, the first time, she completely forgot about the goddamn meeting.

At this point, I think I'll politely tell her I'll look elsewhere for a similar studio or program because it's not fucking worth wasting my time like this three times in a row.

Ew!! Here's an even grosser thing....they gave me my wisdom teeth, including the impacted one that came out in little pieces, to me after they removed them.

I could have had quite the collection.

I'm totally having nightmares tonight

last time I got a tooth extracted, they didn't want to give it to me. They said that legally it was bio-hazardous waste.

I looked at the dentist all incredulously and said "it came from my mouth. What's it gonna do to me?"

He laughed and said "Well, I'm going to put it right here and go get your scrip ready. If it happens to disappear in that time..well..."

I'm pretty sure that the guy read part of the osha standard on tooth disposal and missed the part about being allowed to give the tooth to the patient if requested. That is, unless Texas has enacted some biohazard law about teeth in the last decade or so. Or maybe, that's just what he was taught in school.

Been having intermittent twinges of chest pains since last night that haven't gone away. Trying to sleep it off after work hasn't helped, so enough is enough and I'm in the ER. Likely going to stay the night.

The good news is they don't think it's a heart attack. I have a history of PVCs, but the twinges don't sync up with them, so there you go. More later.

I know a guy that might be able to help.

What's your opinion on arc reactors?
