Some of that, too. What with the avalanche of "how the fuck am I going to deal with all of this?" this week.
Well, grandmother somehow recovered. She's 90 years old and is doing better after a bout of pneumonia and the flu. Why is this still in the rant thread? Well, my uncle isn't doing so well, and he's just given his ok to be taken off the ventilator. They are expecting him to die tonight. This is the uncle who I worked with for 5 years at the factory before I decided factory life wasn't what I wanted for my life. I'm definitely still processing and hope things go quickly for him.
I'm selling a pre-order for a comic that doesn't come out until 3/22. I haven't even recieved a copy myself yet. Of course it's going to be Near Mint. WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M GOING TO DO THEM? Why am I even having to answer this question, like I'm going to go rub shit on my shoe and stomp on some before sending them out or something? Maybe I'll tear up some covers before I stick them in the bags and boards?

I get wanting good copies for your collection, but co-owning a store has made me see just how stupid people can be. I struggle with that. So many people ask me how I'm doing and I can tell that they either don't actually care or they care but don't want more than a fine thanks.
Or when you're honest and they minimize what you're dealing with or tell you about someone with a similar illness that is dead or in a wheelchair. Gee thanks!

I'm so sorry about your uncle.
My dad and aunt found my grandmother passed out next to a small pool of blood. She fell and hit her head and we don't know how much time she was there. She didn't have any fractures and the doctors said she was ok considering the circunstances. The blood next to her bed is not a picture I would be able to forget ever.
I feel you, bro. My grandmother turned 90 a few weeks ago so I went to Quebec City along with some other members of the family to celebrate.My poor grandmother now has a nasty bruise that covers half her face.
What absolutely EVERYONE had failed to mention to me beforehand is that she had had a fall that had ended with her face colliding with a brick wall. No concussion and no serious damage (although I'm pretty sure her cheekbone is at least fractured), but her neck hurts a bit and she looks like she went a couple rounds with Mike Tyson.
She's such a sweet old lady, too, it broke my heart.

Friends of mine adopted three children. These kids never got a fair start in life, they got the shaft. And this will affect them their whole life, treatment and therapy help, but they can't overcome biology.
Regardless my friends welcomed them with open arms. They became a family. Like most they have ups and downs, but they work through it.
One year ago, the middle child ran away from home. It happens every now and then, but this time lasted long enough to get the police involved.
So the whole news cycle of help us find this child began. All the social media, all the radio and television.
She came home shortly after.
And the healing began. They worked on their issues.
Yesterday some computer glitch reposted it on social media. And they whole scenario started over again. News agencies are running the story on TV, radio and the Web.
She was home all weekend.
Nobody bothered to check the dates on the news report, they just repost repost repost.
She got asked about it by a teacher at school today as they heard it on the radio on the way in to work.
Fuck you fake news. They have enough problems without your help.

Buddy, if only you knew.
Sometimes the answer from our radio automation's support department is "reboot the equipment."
We're all like "You know that basically takes us off the air, right? You understand that is not acceptable?"
I swear I can hear them shrugging through the phone line.
Fortunately we still have a CD player piped into the mixer board in most of our stations.
When Verizon support suggested rebooting the computer when I told them strong rains would knock out the DSL every time, I asked them if that would stop the monsoon going on outside.
Other times they would cut me off when I said I was running Linux, even though the problem was with their end, not mine. Finally I told them I was running a Cray. They hung up on me.

I've called tech support for a credit card not going through.
Their response was a request to take our ENTIRE SALES offline for an hour or two while they researched it. On a Saturday.
We did not do that.

The worst is when you've done that and you tell them and they don't believe you and tell you to do it again.
The worst is when you do all their usual steps before you call, do it again while on the phone with them, then they insist on a service call when it doesn't work. Only later to find out they really DID have an outage on their end and didn't bother to tell you.
I personally like telling them the output of unix-commands WHILE in windows. Not in a VM, just from downloading the command-line versions of such utilities for windows. Or Sysutils stuff. Or Wireshark. They get REALLY confused.
I had that "when in the rain, service went out" on my DSL where I used to live. And given I lived on the coast, that wasn't a rare occasion. Moved two months ago, got fibre, been fine since.
