What are you playing?

So I should play?
I do really like the story, personally. The combat in the first game is weirdly unbalanced, since some characters can't use AGWS. Since you have to use those characters at times, the game forces those characters to be "extra good". Since those characters gain and improve skills at the same rate as the other characters that do use the AGWS, building up the non-AGWS characters makes them hugely powerful.

I don't know, I haven't played MW2. From what I've heard, though, yes it's shorter.

Doesn't mean MW1 isn't itself short though.

I, uh, acquired Pokemon Pearl.

For some reason, it's not sucking me into the game like all previous Pokemon games did. Maybe because the beginning of the game is almost identical to every other Pokemon game I played every previous generation. I'm like, "Okay, I already know how to toss Pokeballs, I don't need a mandatory tutorial... and now you're giving me one anyway. Right then."

Hopefully later in the game there'll be enough new stuff to make things interesting.

Heh, I can't help but think of "acquired" as a new meme around here nowadays. :)

I know exactly what you mean though. A bunch of friends and I "LANned" Pokemon White/Black when it came out in order to do the classic "play with a starter until you hit the point where you can trade, give it to a friend, restart, repeat until everyone has every starter" trick. Imagine playing through that annoying as hell 50-minute intro 3-4 times in a row.

I'm awful at FPS games but decided I wanted to play Halo Reach with Mike yesterday. And not even on easy mode! No, I played normal this time! Ha... I did okay! Got a couple headshots and ran away from big monsters. Yep.

Damnit Heatherling, don't be one of those gamer cuties that only really plays Halo!

Get some meat on your gamer bones! Play some L4D! It's a great game to learn on and play with your partner while still having gamer "cred"!

Just rented New Vegas today, based on y'all's talking about it... will see how it turns out for me.

The Capital Wasteland needed a hero, and received one... shall I go White Knight on the badlands of Nevada, as well?

I played some L4D and about had a heart attack when one of the zombies leaped off a fence toward me! Haha I just wasn't expecting it. :) I haven't played much but I enjoyed the little I played!

Fallout New Vegas: I really enjoyed Fallout 3, but I feel like I'm going to enjoy this even more. The atmosphere is fantastic, but more importantly, the people here are a bunch of bastards. I can't remember anyone tricking or duping me as has already happened so early in this game. I'm playing a smooth-talking, greedy gunslinger with intentions of good so long as he's well-paid, but these NPCs are going to push "mistrustful" on as another trait and make me start shooting first, asking questions later.

Glad I didn't get it when it came out though, from all the shit I was hearing back then. Probably for the best that I won't get to Skyrim until maybe summer 2012 at this point.

Yeah, oddly enough I just got all the DLC for New Vegas and I'm right back into it.

HOLY HELL WHAT A DIFFERENCE FROM LAUNCH! The game runs magically delicious now. Here's a guess, game was released far before it should have been.

Basically. Obsidian knew this and asked for a later launch but Bethesda wasn't going to have any of it.

There's actually two more bits of DLC coming out in the next month or so: The Gunrunner's Armory and the Courier's Cache. The first one gives the Gunrunners some all new weapons for sale and the second one is a bundle of all the pre-order DLC (which means you'll start the game with LOTS of good items). These are going to be in the $2-$5 range though, so at least they are cheap.

I think I'm done with New Vegas for now... I've already put 300+ hours into the game, played it as 6 different characters and 6 different ways, and done EVERYTHING there is to do in the game. If those two new DLC don't add Gamer Score to the game, I probably won't be getting them. They might release some more DLC than planned but unless it's another story update then I really don't care at this point. This game has DEVOURED 9 months of my life. It's time to move on for awhile and prepare for Skyrim.

I started Fallout 3 in what? March? April? It's Sept. and I'm 75% of the way through New Vegas. Holy crap. This beats all my records.

The only game I've played as much as Fallout has been Oblivion. Even then, with the addition of New Vegas, it's easily surpassed that. Bethseda are truly gods among game developers. As well as the mod communities for all their games.

I shudder to think where I'd be if I had New Vegas on my PC. I'd never quit... NEVER.

I played FO3 for years thanks to the mods so yeah, New Vegas has been one of the longest standing games I keep coming back to. First play through = no mods. Second/Third will be minor tweak mods. Fourth+ will be mods + player made campaigns.

I thought you already had a run going? Or did you restart it to take better advantage of the Evil options? I kinda wish they hadn't hidden them so well.

I'll say this much about the alignment system in New Vegas: It may be hard to go evil, but at least they don't care who you go evil FOR. It's entirely possible to follow any of the groups and still be evil, without repercussions.

Started playing Gears today! The first one. Wanted to see what all the hype was about with the series and I've always preferred third person shooters to first. :) So far, so good!

Too many good games, not enough time. I started Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together last weekend and haven't gotten a chance to pick it up again yet after those initial three hours, but holy crap--this is where good tactics has gone. It's like having a non-Advance successor to Final Fantasy Tactics and I LOVE it.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together came out in 1996 on the Sega Saturn. Final Fantasy Tactics came out in 1997. Technically, FFT is the successor to Tactics Ogre.

Any links/tipps for good FO3:NV mods? I just tried Project Nevada and like it a lot,but a few Cosmetical Mods would be nice.
Project Nevada (Which I am using this time around) or FOOK, but not both from what I understand. FOOK is amazing but I only used it on FO3, not sure how the NV version is.

Weapon Mods Expansion (WME) - is a MUST, it makes the guns alot more unique and adds alot more mods.

Lings Coiffure - Is the hair mod I like the most. It has the most options and very few clip with most head models.

Fellout - Makes the game ALOT more clear, though some people prefer the orange/green look of the games as they are. I personally prefer the Fellout look.

EVE - Is another MUST for anyone who uses energy weapons. It changes ALL the textures of energy weapon fire and even how your targets die.

Beware of Girl Type 3 - Is a female texture mod. In the past it was only for "beautiful overly endowed nude" characters, but now it has much more realistitc and non-nude options.

Type 3 Body Armor - Replaces all female armor with types that will fit the body type if you chose the previous texture replacement.

Detailed Normals - Replaces ALOT of textures in the game but can be taxing on lower end systems.

All these mods can be found:

I am playing Dead Money DLC for New Vegas.

I am FUCKING OVER the radio signal head exploding game mechanic here. At first, I thought it was neat. When you encounter it EVERY SIXTEEN SECONDS over the course of 5+ hours of this depressing hellhole, it's just fucking tedious.

I can say this, I am never likely to ever, ever, ever play through this again.

Wow, I just read some asshole say it was better than Point Lookout. Well, that asshole was wrong. And an asshole.

Holy shit, ok, someone tell me if the other dlcs are like this. If so, I'm fucking done. Being told I have HIV by a doctor right now would be more fun than this nonsense in the casino vault.

No, the other DLCs don't have insta-kill moments like the collar things (though personally I thought they made it more fun.) I find them to be much easier, which kinda ruins the fun for me... though the Deathclaws in Lonesome Road are NASTY.

Here's my run-down on the rest of the DLCs.

Honest Hearts: Don't buy it unless you like to craft or want the perks (Tribal Wisdom is very nice, as is Fight the Power!). Story is quick, you don't get much involvement, and it really doesn't have much to do with the over-arching plot of the other 3 DLCs. This is very much something your buying for the stuff it gives you, not for the actual content.

Old World Blues: Kind of silly but I like it. Lots of fun stuff to do, lots of items to find, and a whole lot of story if you look for it. Be sure to look for the log tapes from Elijah, Christine, and Ulysses. Plus the house you get out of it is great...

The Lonesome Road: Only buy this if you care about the story between the Courier and Ulysses. It has a few great items, awesome upgrades for E-DE (as well as some more detail on his story), and some awesome set pieces... but the actual reward for completing it isn't that great.

I liked Dead Money.... I thought the mechanic was unique and did a good job of restricting your movements in a way that fit the storyline. I loved the characters and their storylines actually extended into the regular game "Father Elijah's influence, Catherine's love, the culimation of Dean's storyline, DOG's internal battle and the great GREAT history of the Casino itself as well as the really wicked ending choices you get. I really loved it.

I found myself rushing through this one, mostly because I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about any of the tribes or the people there. I just wanted to drop missles on the entire place and call it a day.

Amazingly fun, interesting, funny, challenging DLC. Perfect bridge between Dead Money, Mojave and Lonesome Road storywise. Great mechanics, fun weapons, and an AMAZING second "home" to use for future travels.

Loved the story, the items were "meh" but nice to have. Felt WAAAAY too enclosed/linear for my tastes though. Still, a must buy if you love the storylines and i LOVED how the ending affects part of your travels in the Mojave depending on your choices at the end.

It wasn't that I found it difficult. I found it tedious. Every time the speakers reset or new speakers activated in the Villa that slowed me down even more I would just groan.

Is it possible to not have Christine stay behind in the casino forever? That felt like a shitty copout.

Sadly no, I REALLY wanted to take her into the Mojave with me (without relying on mods) or even do a reunion with her and her love. That would have been amazing.

I was actually more upset that you never see Dean Domino in his good ending... it mentions that he's heading to New Vegas, so why the fuck don't we get to see him there? He'd be a fun edition to the Rad Pack's little show.
