What are you playing?

I honestly haven't gotten past the second mission in DE:HR yet. It's a little bit down there on my list of games to get to yet.

Borderlands + wife = wonderful fun.

We used to play on our PCs before those crapped out, and when we tried playing on console before, we had controller, TV, and capability issues. Since then we got a big HDTV for a wedding present so the split-screen is like we each have a TV of the old one's size, we figured out how to get each other our own controller layout, and my wife's played lots of Fallout and Skyrim which has gotten her acclimated to FPS games with a controller.

Picked up the GOTY edition for $20 store credit at Gamestop and had a blast tonight. We have such a hard time finding games we both enjoy playing that aren't too difficult for her or too boring for me, and Borderlands fits that niche perfectly.

Borderlands + Husband = Me: What are you doing?! Your shields are down! Get out of the line of fire! Scags! UGH, STAY DOWN; I'M COMING TO RESCUE YOU.

= ♥

Oh please. More like you: "You saw a skag? Where? I don't see a--OH GOD IT'S ON MY LEG AND I CAN'T SEE IT, USE MELEE!"

...admittedly followed by "I SAID MELEE, NOT GRENADE!"

Yeah, me and mine are looking forward to Borderlands 2. Does the GOTY edition have all the DLC? If not, make sure you guys pick up the General Knoxx DLC for sure, and the others aren't too bad either. Mad Moxxi's underdome riot is worth it just for the bank space.

GOTY has all of it, plus a code for the Duke Nukem Forever demo. My takes on the DLC?

- Dr. Zed: This is fun and changes the game a lot. It becomes a lot harder because you really need to land those headshots, meaning you may need to rethink your tactics if you've been using an innaccurate weapon like a shotgun or SMG.

- Mad Moxxi: I really don't feel like the storage is worth it. How often do you need more than 4 guns? Why would you save a gun you've out leveled? The Arena is fun, but you will NEVER have the patience for the 100 round matches, meaning you will never really "finish it".

- General Knoxx: This adds to the story, introduces new stuff, and has a great reward for finishing it. Highly recommended.

- Claptrap's Robot Revolution: This is fun to play and the rewards are worth it (you get a free skill point every time you finish it). It's basically a boss rush with short levels full of claptraps and Hyperion soldiers. The plot is an excuse to shoot shit.

Dammit, I really wish I could play Borderlands without getting constant BSODs.

Time to upgrade this junk rig, methinks.

Heh, you must have either found a lot less oranges than me, or are a crazy SOB who throws out ultimate weapons! Though I guess it's true all you need are the two maliwan oranges (the SMG and the sniper rifle), I turned all pokegun and had to collect them all. Just.. couldn't carry them all.

No, it's just that I never needed more than 4 guns. Why would I keep a gun I wasn't going to USE?

- Ajax's Spear: Got a good one of these on my second playthrough of General Knox. It's basically a perfect Assault Rifle if your playing a rifle soldier. High Accuracy and Ammo, decent damage and a ludicrous fire rate. You start getting those fire rate boosts and this turns into your main death dealer. Took out General Knox with 5 seconds of straight, boosted headshots from this thing.

- Orange Maliwan Revolver: Normally these suck, what with the two rounds and slow firing rate, but in the hands of an Assault Rifle soldier, those two rounds become more like 6 and your firing rate goes through the roof. Add in the acid effect and you got a monster. This basically became my Sniper Rifle once I got it.

- Purple Shock Elemental Auto Pistol: This was my opener against anything with a significant shield. With a fire rate boost from killing someone, this will strip the shields off anything in less than a second.

- Purple SMG: Don't remember the brand, but this thing had an expanded clip, increased fire rate and increased accuracy. With the fire rate boost, it turns into a fire hose of death. The sound of each shoot blends into each ether and the muzzle flash is a constant image.

Really, once I hit 60, I never needed another gun.

I never got a spear, but I can tell you my Hellfire and Volcano got me through 95% of everything near instantly. I also had a lightning revolver (purple I think) to get me through shields in a hurry, and that handled the other 5%. But I could never bring myself to throw out an orange of any kind. Because I MIGHT need it (level appropriate ones that is).

Looking through that wiki, I think my pistol was a two-shot Defiler. And I'm surprised you never got an Ajax's Spear. They almost always drop when you beat Ajax in General Knox.

What can I say, I was unlucky I suppose. And of course, by that time I was already invested in SMGs and sniper rifles anyway, since I'd never found a worthwhile assault rifle up to that point. So I may have gotten one, I dunno. The damage on it just seems a little small, from that wiki entry, for not having an elemental component.

Mine does like 300+ a shot. It's plenty strong. Also, it CAN come with elements. Mine doesn't.

What you aren't considering is that's it's supposed to be used by a Support Soldier with Metal Storm, Overload, and Assault. With those, your firing a damn near perfectly accurate AR at upwards of +30% firing speed. When those are head shots, it basically destroys everything you point it at.

I'm not saying there aren't better ARs. I'm just saying it's a really damn good AR if you want to shoot lots of bullets.

Next on my gaming list:

Bontanicula---finished and loved it, though I felt it was a little short.

Dungeon defenders + DLC and Naval War: Arctic Circle. Yay steam sales.

I played the second chapter of The Walking Dead. I don't really know what to call it, it's not really a game as your interaction is minimal... more like an interactive story. Whatever it is, it's great.

Playing the heck out of Cities XL 2012 that I got from Dave.Have to use mods though, because Focus First released it kinda unbalanced.

Now that I had to download Steam to get the game,i am thinking of downloading Team Fortress 2. Any tips for a beginner?

1. Teamwork. The side working as a well coordinated and well balanced team will beat the side that doesn't.

2. Use a microphone. Good coordination and teamwork is generally facilitated through good voice communication.

3. Good starting classes are Soldier, Heavy and Medic. For Soldier and Heavy, shoot things until they die. For Medic, follow your team mates around and keep them healthy, and let them do the killing for you. Pyro and Scout are also not too bad for beginners. You probably shouldn't play Engineer, Spy or Demoman until you're slightly more experienced.

4. The first time you play, you will be confused, you will be lost. This is normal, and will pass very soon. Valve did their best to make the maps and classes intuitive, you'll pick up everything soon enough.

5. Remember it's a game. Go out there and have fun!

Persona 3: Time for the final battle. Don't have all social links maxed, don't have special Personas... but I'm gonna try.
Get ready for a marathon. I think I fought that guy for like 20-30 minutes, before he confused someone and got a full heal during his final phase. It was the only time I've ever thrown a controller.

My PSP is busted enough without chucking it. In fact, it ate my Persona 3 disc; the only reason I can play is because I bought it off PSN.

And yeah, that took a while. I spent a good chunk of the battle poisoned before realizing I had items to get rid of that. Patience seems really key; you have to accept that some turns, you won't be doing any damage. But I had a solid team and I'd stockpiled useful items, so it's over.

Nice ending. I'll have to look up what the FES is since I won't be playing it as it's not on PSP. Hopefully they release the second part of Persona 2 to PSP (or something).

FES was the updated PS2 version. You already have everything you can get from FES on your PSP copy, except for The Answer. The Answer takes place some time after the scene at Graduation Day. I won't get into the details, but the MC is gone, so you play as Aegis instead. The entire game is on HARD MODE and you don't have access to the Persona Compendium, so you really need to grind for those persona.

It does fill out the last bit of story though.

Colonization

After finishing my Archaeology summer course last week, I've been in the mood for something...colonial. It's likely all the work we've been doing, looking into pre-contact First Nation settlements and such. So yeah, Colonization.

And it's not bad. I remember trying it once before ages ago, but didn't really dig it. Giving it an honest try this time, I've mostly figured it out, I think. I've managed to fight off the king's men twice in a row, now. But holy fuck, does the king ever come after you hard once you declare independence. It's not like Civilzation where you'll get one small wave after another of like 7 or so units, oh no. The king just launches EVERYTHING at you at once. If you've built up your armies, you should be able to defend yourself, but it's not easy, I'll say that much.

That said, I do have one complaint: the toughest (and only) ship at the king's disposal when he attacks is a War Galleon or something. Attack strength of 12. The strongest ship you can get? A Ship of the Line, Strength 8. You have to sacrifice one or two just to weaken one of the war ship enough to take it down. I think that's rather unfair and think you should be able (with a lot of resources and build up) to build your own powerful ship to take it on. But then, I guess the point of the game isn't the ships (since you don't have to beat them to win), but the huge army that comes on them.

Read it. Sounds kinda... eh. Unnecessary. I thought it was like Persona 2 or Digital Devil Saga which (people tell me) have a second part of their respective games, but The Answer sounds kind of tacked on. The only stuff I didn't feel was explained was Igor and Elizabeth, and apparently they're from other Persona games.

Not sure I want to bother with Persona 2 for that matter. The negotiation system sounds too much like the Draw system from Final Fantasy VIII.

Basically, The Answer is about the final fate of the main character of Persona 3. What happened to him wasn't exactly clear in the game and this story was about ending his and Aegis's stories. The events of The Answer (and Persona 3 FES in general) are also why Elizabeth isn't in Persona 4.

She's trying to figure out a way to free him from his duty as the barrier, as she became a bit smitten with him during the story of Persona 3 FES. Her sister took her place when she up and ran off.

It's not REALLY important, but it does answer a few questions left unanswered. As for Igor and Elizabeth... Igor's from the rest of the games and basically servers as the Master of the Velvet Room. How he got there isn't ever revealed in any of them.
