What are you playing?

So what you are saying is.... you want to play Tactician mode as the squishy this time?!
Sure let's do that. YOU can be facetank this time!

Or we can just continue to send Madora to her repeated death while both of us mince around in the background wiggling our fingers or plinking them with bows. Maybe you'll actually get more than 1 bow drop over 60 hours this time!

And the rogue that we just left in the sewer. ;)
I dunno, the rogue sounds like it might be more trouble than it is worth. Having to jockey for positional attacks seems to me to be an invitation to multiple incoming attacks of opportunity.

I'm having more fun with Yo-Kai Watch than I've had with a Pokemon game in years. It's becoming a Nintendo faux pas to shit on Pokemon when praising Yokai, but the comparisons are inevitable and the main difference is that with this I feel invested. I probably won't even look at this when the new Shin Megami Tensei game comes out next year, but I could see getting into this series over picking up whatever the next Pokemon game will be. It's less battling/catch 'em all and more about story and getting involved in events, which feels more like an RPG to me.
I'm debating between this and Super Mystery Dungeon for my obnoxious airplane + giant layover time in a week and a half.

Divinity moment of the night: I was wearing a sarong with +1 intel that required 8 intel to wear. That +1 intel gave me the 8 intel I needed to wear it. I only realized this after trying on a different sarong, and deciding to go back to my previous one - but it wouldn't let me put it on because now my intel was 7. I ended up having to drink an intelligence potion to put my pants back on.
I ran into this problem so many times in Titan Quest. Especially when it was a weapon or shield that gave me the stats necessary to equip something. I'd equip a new piece, then switch weapons, and *pop* off comes a piece of clothing. Sometimes I'd have to wait to go back to town to check out new equipment, just because of the crazy stat juggling it could take to change things out.

I can't tell you how many times I'd have a spare suit of stuff (usually rings) back in town just for this purpose. I'll keep a handful of "key" items whose sole purpose is to give me that temporary boost long enough to do a thing.

Having never played a Mystery Dungeon game, I can't speak for or against it.

I will say I use Yo-Kai Watch as a relaxed game. Some people use Animal Crossing, but that's too relaxed for me. This is simple and fun enough that it doesn't demand a lot out of me as opposed to something like Shin Megami Tensei or Monster Hunter. The battles are not turn-based and unless your team is over-leveled, you have to cycle and manage them, but it's not really difficult. From what I hear, Mystery Dungeon is a bit more challenging, so consider that as a factor when deciding.

I like ARK enough but I'm starting to sour on the whole "survival" genre. Once you reach a certain point it becomes largely self-sustaining. And the most interesting bits are right at the beginning, but you can only do that so much.

It's why I haven't been playing a lot of Minecraft lately.
The survival of the fittest portion of ARK retains the urgency and interesting beginning while making it a contest. Games are usually between 15 minutes and 3 hours if you manage to live until the end.

Football Manager 2016

What the hell happened to me? I was so awesome at Football Manager 2013! I skipped three installments, and now I totally suck?

Grr, I will not be beaten by this game. I shall not rest until I crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their fans!

The Wonderful 101: I got this as a free end of Club Nintendo gift a few months back and decided to save it for when Fallout 4 would be out, so I'd have something to play on nights when it was my wife's turn on the PS4.

This game is fantastic. It has a similar skeleton to Bayonetta in some ways, which helps get me in the mode of how it has to operate. At a glance, it might look like a beat-em-up, but that's a good way to get your ass kicked. Once I bought the block and dodge Unites, I knew where I was at with working out the bosses. The game's forgiving enough that if you die, you can revive at the exact place you died with the enemy at the same health, but I don't want a shitty bronze trophy!

This is a game you pick up when someone refers to Splatoon as the Wii U's first great original IP, then you smack the Wonderful 101's game box across their face.

I just finished playing The Beginners Guide, a 'walking simulator' created by the same guy that made The Stanley Parable. I expected it to be quirky and funny like The Stanley Parable. It was not. But I did have a surprising emotional response to it.

I quite enjoyed it.

I mean, Battlefront comes out this week. I won't be getting it, but Terrik is practically squealing with anticipation for it like a teenybopper for a boy band concert... I'm wagerin' that's gettin' played this weekend after the test.

I'm getting pretty far into Tales of Zestiria. As a longtime fan of the series, (I played quite a few of them, but not all. There's, like 20 games if you include spin offs) I have to say that this is shaping up to be my favorite of the series. I love the world and mythos that they've built up. It's full of JRPG tropes, such as what I like to call the "cyclical Jesus" plotline. That's where every few generations, a great savior arises and fights back the evil of the world. And of course, there are two warring nations pushing the plot along. However, the game goes out of its way to establish that neither nation is in the right, they are just humans who are being led into war by those in charge.

Basically, you're the new jesus. And I mean that pretty literally in the context of the game. You are the only human who was raised by angels (they're even called the seraphim) who must become the savoir of the world. You roam around exorcising demons (even the demons are fallen seraphim). It's been interesting to see how the christianization of asian culture has led to a fast and loose interpretation of the christian mythology. The main character is innocent and playful, but also a little serious, so he's not super broodarific, but also not a total clown. Some of the biggest issues I have with JRPGs are with their annoying as shit main characters.

I also like the combat system. As with all Tales games, it's an active battle system but the twist on this one is that the seraphim that are fighting along side you can merge with you to make you super powerful for a short period of time.

The equipment system is also pretty interesting in that it has various modifiers on weapons and armor that can be transferred to other weapons and armor by fusing them together. The different types of modifers fall into specific categories, such as defense, focus, magic power, and such and the modifiers fall under specific elements. When you have combinations of elements or modifiers, they activate bonuses for the weapon or armor, or even for the whole party. Plus, the fact that you merge weapons means that you're not constantly dumping your old ones as soon as you hit the next area.

There's also various side questery to be had, such as finding all the little dudes that can add specific modifiers to your armor like little helpful pokemon.

Overall, I have to say that I love it. I think it also looks really good for a relatively old game (it was originally released for the PS3 in Japan and only recently ported over). I'm still amazed at how they can capture the anime look with 3d models nowadays.

Well the set pieces sure are nice.

Also, extremely well optimized. I'm running at 1440p with everything max and getting 80-100+ FPS
