Sorry, yeah I was trying to say that the Leviticus passage was clear. It is the Greek ones that have ambiguity but as alien pointed out, Greek was not used in Leviticus.
As I understand it, the Greek version, which obviously is a much earlier translation than the English translation, was used to provide context to the idiomatic use of the verbiage since it is chronologically "closer" to the context of the original.

Sort of like how these days there's a HUGE difference of opinion in what exactly was meant by a "well regulated militia" in text from a mere 250 years ago. The meaning of the word "regulation" changed dramatically over the centuries. Other context clues have to be used, in both cases, to corroborate the underlying meaning. And the Greek translation seems to interpret the passage as meaning pedophilia and not homosexuality.

I can't speak with authority as to what interpretation is correct, I can merely note that people in whose academic wheelhouse this matter resides do not consider the matter to be cut and dry - and the people who DO consider it to be so have an agenda and a very prominent axe to grind.

Curious in how apparently this one section of the Christian faith in particular seems to be encouraging so many to behave and think in a VERY un-Christlike manner. I thought we were all supposed to love one another as ourselves, and leave judgement to God?

I’ve always found the “well the original meaning of Leviticus wasn’t homophobic”argument to be pointless. There are other homophobic verses in the Bible, and no religion is truly based on the Bible with no interpretation. It was written a few thousand years ago by whack jobs. Deriving your morality from it is bound to lead you to bad stuff. If you could logic people into changing their interpretation it, you could just as well logic them into realizing it’s a stupid thing to follow.

There is, after all, the whole thing where if you take the literal interpretation of the Bible as direct law, it also:
Forbids eating pork
Forbids cutting your hair
Forbids eating shellfish
Forbids speaking in church, if you are female
Requires you to marry your brother's widow
Forbids wearing mixed fabrics
Forbids planting different crops simultaneously
Forbids charging interest on loans
Forbids making ANY profit above cost on selling food
Makes sex out of wedlock punishable by death

Picking and choosing FTW I guess

But then we're all just talking in an echo chamber here. Much like the man with Leviticus in his truck window, our messages are only to those who already agree with us.

I will say, a lot of the Orthodox Jews actually follow those stupid rules. I knew a guy in high school who said he doesn’t support gay marriage because of the Bible and the person responded with “so do you also not eat shrimp or mix wool & linen?” And he said “no I don’t.” I obviously didn’t agree with him but it was pretty funny.

Well yeah, I thought it was common knowledge that Orthodox Jews did that ;)

But if you REALLY wanted to get his goat, you should have asked him about charging interest on loans :p

That’s only about charging interest on other Jews. But as he was a high schooler, I dont think he really was in the lending business.
Yeah, but it would have irritated him because it would have been an obvious invocation of the "Jewish Banker" offensive stereotype.

And if you can't convince em, troll em.

But it's moot because the people insisting on Leviticus to dictate national LGBTQ++ policy are not orthodox jews - they are generally Christians of various protestant flavors, and thus are rife with hypocrisy.

One of my all-time favorite books is The Year of Living Biblically, by AJ Jacobs. He tries to live according to the Bible for a year, but taking it as literally as possible. It's hilarious.

It’s also moot because they don’t care. They’re unambiguously evil and 99% will never be convinced.

They really just don't care, because they never hold themselves to the same standards they impose on everyone else. Recently I finally got to read "The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion" and some of the anecdotes in there were really striking. I think the one that stuck with me the most though wasn't even the US, but The Netherlands, in which a woman got an abortion and literally as she left the clinic told the physician "And you’re still a murderer."

THEY are "killers", but not ME, because I had NO CHOICE if I wanted to keep my boyfriend / take that new job / keep wearing my favorite jeans."

People with these types of mindsets are sociopaths. They don't care about other people, it's only about themselves, their own comforts, and winning the game. A pregnant woman driving a van full of kids could crash into an Amazon 18-wheeler, killing everyone inside, and these people would lament how annoying it is they wouldn't get their package on time.

I've seen several dissections of their behavior, mostly on reddit. It comes down to this: "Get and hold power by any means necessary, everything else is a distraction." Right-to-life, fighting wokeness, even Christianity, it's all the equivalent of setting fires to cover an escape--all a distraction/diversion to get people to talk about human rights and climate and finance instead of the underlying constant accumulation of power and influence.

tl:dr; Work to undermine/remove their power. Ignore everything else. Yes, really. It's that simple. Don't get distracted.

Almost tempted to send a package of burn cream to Gaetz. "I saw your interaction with Dr. Kahl and thought you might need this"

"Under the Bill, registered Democrats would be automatically re-registered as having "no party affiliation." The Democratic party officers could reorganize, but only under a substantially different name."
An interesting question...can you technically be disenfranchised if the franchise somehow independently ceases to exist?

Matt Gaetz entered Chinese propaganda into evidence in a congressional hearing.

Rapey McForehead is a complete and total embarrassment. Not only is he promoting Chinese propaganda, but he also invited a murderer to say the Pledge of Allegiance to own the libs.

This is what it has come to. Republicans proudly showing off murderers as a power play.

VTuber Amano Pikamee has announced she is "graduating" (what the Japanese Idol Culture calls quitting the biz) after being driven offline by a deluge of abuse when she tried to stream Hogwarts Legacy

It's a bummer. I enjoyed her content.

I don't know, the actual story makes it seem like she just wanted to quit that group and took the as the opportunity to do so. Streamer groups like that are creepy anyway

Why would you waste that much space when it's all online ?
First, a thousand jpgs doesn't take up much space. Second, the internet isn't as forever as it's cracked up to be. Some stuff sticks around like cockroaches, other stuff vanishes. There are several webcomics I wish I could re-read for nostalgia, but have disappeared off the web forever.

This conversation reminds me of the "Depends on the Context" meme. Is 880 a lot? Hours of video, yes. Still images, no. (With the caveat that any sort of file containing the sexual exploitation of a child is a lot. One file of CSAM is too many. Context matters.)

As Pez says, online isn't online forever.

That's why I have a Plex server instead of just a Netflix subscription.
It's also why I rip the DRM off my bought-and-paid-for books and movies and put archival backups on my machine. Just because the little digital icon said i "purchased" it, it's not "mine" unless I can control where it lives. If I buy a car, I put it in my garage. I don't leave it at the dealer, no matter whether or not they promise I can drive it whenever I want.

Also some things aren't easily available for streaming, and downloading them remains the easiest and best way to consume such content.

Ok, ok, I take back my statement. It's not weird to have a terabyte harddrive full of porn hidden in a bunker to be used as jerk off material in the event of societal and internet collapse. That's perfectly normal.

Aside from a few important documents that you just need to exist, I don't even backup the normal contents of my computer. If my harddrive crashes that data is just gone, dust in the wind, I'll start over.

I would like to point out that Twitter (and by extension every hotlinked reference) is poised to go dark pretty much any moment now, and even if it doesn’t go completely dark, it will no doubt be fundamentally changed, probably with the same result.
