What are you playing?

For some reason, I never got the deep terror in me toward the chelicerates like I did the reaper leviathans of the first game. They just seemed less intimidating to me. I would routinely tangle with them, and at most they were an inconvenience.

Yeah, I definitely agree that chelicerates are less scary than reapers.

However, when there's a chelicerate trying to bite your face off from five feet away, that's still very very scary.

That's the thing... I wish I had to hide in a crevice. Usually I would just get in my Seatruck and go about my business. And before I had that, I think I got the stasis rifle way earlier in Below Zero than I did in OG subnautica, so I basically had a get-out-of-jail-free card for all open water encounters.

Also, a lot of times, the chelicerate pathing and turn radius was such that I could just... kinda... sidestep it and keep going, even without a vehicle.

Forager

This game is like someone set out to make Minecraft in 2D, and then ended up going in a different direction. There's very little exploration, no random generation, and this generally feels more like a treadmill than Minecraft does. Resources constantly respawn in the world, including ores and trees, so Forager sometimes feels like whack-a-mole, just smashing whatever pops up.

It's enjoyable, with a pleasant art style, but there's not much to it beyond grind to get the next thing so you have more things to grind for.

Been getting better and more into Civ 7 this weekend. Started to get that feel of just 1 more turn. But I just hit the giant dog turd in the room. If you don't switch capitals at the start of each age, you run out of space in your capital to build more modern things and get fucked. Currently staring at an Altar I desperately want gone, so I can build a Railway Station....

No railway station in capital, no railway network, no railway network, no factories...a giant part of the end game.

Monster Hunter Wilds:

The first real monster hunter game I've tried. I've tried a demo here and there in the past but could never get into it.

The control scheme of Monster Hunter is designed for fucking aliens. You need 13 fingers active at all times just to do anything.

Also there's too much talking and story. I don't care about the lore of the wild lands or the lost tribe or the keepers... shut up and let me fight the monster.

This MH game had a super long tutorial for sure. Once it’s done, the game is super fun.

I am super weirded out that my Palico (cat hunting partner) is voice acted now. For as long as I can remember, they would meow and we’d get a subtitle. Now, my buddy chats during our hunts. It’s not right lol.

Pumpkin Jack

This was the blandest, most by-the-numbers platformer I have played in a while. Every aspect feels like a generic version. Nothing especially bad, nothing especially good, nothing stands out at all.

It's got minecart rides, because every platformer needs minecarts, right? The literal minecart sections are just two buttons. You either jump or fire at the obstacles, and there's a button prompt for all the obstacles. You don't aim, you don't lean, just press jump at the glowing parts of the track, and fire when the prompt shows up over obstacles. Later auto scrolling segments change things up with some maneuvering necessary with the stick, but that's it.

That's how the whole game feels. It's got the thing, because platformers have the thing, and the thing works, but it's not an interesting version of the thing. I wasn't even upset by anything it did, like I was with Scarf. The closest Pumpkin Jack came to getting a strong response from me was when a boss fight had a graphical glitch that made it difficult to see where the damaging sections of floor were. Other than that I almost chuckled at some jokes.

The graphics are fine, but have no distinct style and feel like they could fit in dozens of different games. Same for the sound effects, music, animation, plot, dialogue, and gameplay. It's not even than it's stealing the most interesting stuff from other games (like Darksiders did) it's just doing the statistical average.

I didn't hate my time with it, but I can't recommend it.

Hades 2

WELP-I have unlocked pretty much all the dialogue from every single character so far...so I think that means I've been playing too much. STILL haven't beaten the final final Mt. Olympus boss though, as I thought...PROMETHEUS was the final one, so next time I'm going to try not to die as much.

Doom (2016)

Well, it took nearly 10 years, but this game finally sunk its teeth into me. I've tried it multiple times before and found it bland and repetitive. I honestly don't know what changed because I've given this game more second chances than any other game. And yet, for whatever reason, I'm finally digging it this time around.

Industria

It's like someone wanted to make Half-Life but survival horror, and I'm NOT a fan of this style of survival horror game, apparently. I hit an area that just hit me with an apparently unending flood of enemies, and I'm out. I don't know if it's because I don't like the genre, but the game design feels dated in a bad way.

The voice acting is good, and I'd like to know where the story goes, but the enemies are boring when they're not obnoxious.

EDIT: Almost forgot I just finished Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical

This is Telltale style dialogue driven adventure not stats and combat RPG, good thing I was up for either. I had a great time with it, but I can see why it didn't create more buzz. Most of the songs are forgettable, and some are outright duds. There's very few really catchy tunes, and that's not great for a musical.

The story is excellent though, and the voice work is top notch (as should be expected given the cast). I'll probably pick up the DLC at some point.

EDIT: Whoops, neglected to put in a "NOT"

Industria was kind of a proof of concept for the game the devs actually wanted to make, which is going to be Industria 2. My honest opinion of the game is that they were too focused on the German Expressionism art angle and completely failed at the actual gameplay angle because EVERYTHING just sucks up ammo so I'm just searching empty rooms for ammo to shoot boring enemies with while searching empty rooms for ammo to... I didn't hate it but the FPS parts just aren't interesting. I'm glad I didn't pay anything for it because I'd have been disappointed if I had.

Noticing the game combo... I'm assuming you're going through the Amazon Prime Games offerings from Twitch Prime? I'd recommend The Occupation if you've got it. It's a first person investigation/stealth game where you're playing as a reporter trying to uncover the truth behind what happened behind a bombing in a fascist country... and it's actually good at what it's trying to do.

Your quoting me made me realize I've committed one of my common typos, skipping over a "not". I don't usually enjoy survival horror, there's been few games that are an exception, and Industria rubbed me the wrong way for all the usual reasons that suvival horror usually does. Limited saves, random sections where your best option is to run, flashlight batteries that run out faster than the flavor of Fruit Stripe gum, etc.

I did get both through Prime, but Stray Gods had been on my wishlist since it was first announced, and I was intrigued by the visual style of Industria in it's trailers, though not enough to think about purchasing it.

I did grab The Occupation, but I'm not usually a fan of stealth gameplay. There have been some exceptions, so I'll consider it. I've got a lot on my list of top games to play, though.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced

I can perceive no meaningful difference from the previous version.

But hey, it's GTA, that's always fun.

Beat Portal again, MAN this game is shorter than I remember, just under 3 hours. TOMORROW-the challenge maps!
Have you thought of trying some of the player-made levels/mods? I recall playing stuff like Portal: Prelude and the Flash Map Pack a few years ago, and they took ages and made me feel really stupid.

Played a few fan made levels in the past, but I'm always down for a challenge, thank you!

Still playing and enjoying Stellaris, but the spring sale on Baldur's Gate 3 was too good to pass up, so currently that. This is my first playthrough and I have mostly avoided spoilers, so please do not post any.

I will only say this... do not be shy about spending your inspirations on dialog rerolls. They are a pretty easy to come by, as long as your character is acting in line with the origin you picked for them, and the maximum you can stockpile is lower than it should be imo.
